Despite the explosion of books, videos and TV shows that claim to penetrate the mystery of "2012"-the numerical shorthand for the completion on December 21, 2012, of the thirteenth B'ak'tun cycle in the Long Count of the Maya calendar-consensus about its meaning seems to remain elusive. As metaphysical speculation mounts, professional astronomers and ethnologists dismiss the whole body of modern interpretations of the Mayan calendar as New Age gobbledygook. Among the supposed seers themselves-including Jose Arguelles, Carl Johann Calleman, and Daniel Pinchbeck-doctrinal disputes worthy of academics are now the norm. The scholars have every right to be miffed at the sometimes sloppy thinking and exaggerated claims of the seers, which tend toward enthusiastic proclamations of an imminent, universally accelerated psychic evolution, while the seers themselves have legitimate critiques about the limits of scientific inquiry when it comes to the prophetic traditions of ancient peoples. Christ and the Maya Calendar approaches the significance of 2012 by spiritually penetrating phenomena of today.
Drawing on the book of Revelation-which provides an archetype for understanding spiritual history, as well as on Rudolf Steiner's Apocalyptic indications, a completely new context for grasping the end date of the Maya calendar emerges. In a November 1919 lecture, Steiner made a stunning remark about Ahriman: "Ahriman skillfully prepares his goal beforehand ...[and] will find an important instrument for preparing his incarnation. His incarnation is undoubtedly coming, and this lack of insight will enable him to prepare it triumphantly." The subtitle of this book-"2012 and the Coming of the Antichrist"-refers to this coming incarnation of Ahriman. In fact, Steiner narrowed the timeline for Ahriman's incarnation, saying it would come "before even a small part of the third millennium has run its course." Just after Christmas 1919, Steiner revealed more about the impending incarnation of Ahriman, saying almost offhandedly that Ahriman's name might be "John William Smith." With this remark, he clearly pointed to the incarnation occurring in the English-speaking West, while other remarks made it is certain Steiner meant that the incarnation would take place in America.
In addition to penetrating the spiritual background of our time in relation to the coming of the Antichrist (the incarnation of Ahriman), the authors explore the significance of the Mexican mysteries and present a wealth of new research with the intention of helping the reader to navigate the Apocalyptic scenario currently shaping up, with the global financial crisis as one important expression. Most important, the authors refer to the Second Coming of Christ as the true event of our time; the incarnation of Satan/Ahriman is its shadow. The authors also show the significance of Divine Sophia as the antidote to negative consequences of Ahriman's incarnation. Finally, as a positive manifestation of the world of spirit in our time, the book discusses the significance of the young anthroposophist, Judith von Halle, who since Easter 2004 has born the stigmata, the visible signs of the wounds of Christ.

Disease, Karma and Healing Spiritual-Scientific Enquiries into the Nature of the Human Being, STEINER, RUDOLF
4 Disease, Karma and Healing Spiritual-Scientific Enquiries into the Nature of the Human Being
STEINER, RUDOLF
1855843838 / 9781855843837 2013
Today, illness is almost universally regarded as either a nuisance or a grave misfortune. In contrast to this conventional thinking, Rudolf Steiner places the suffering caused by disease in a broad vista that includes an understanding of karma and personal metamorphosis. Illness comes to expression in the physical body, but mostly does not originate in it, says Steiner, and thus a key part of the physician’s work involves gaining insight into the whole nature of an individual – his essential core being. From this perspective, illness offers us the opportunity for deeper healing.

Throughout this volume Rudolf Steiner draws our attention to the greater scope of the smallest phenomena – even a seemingly insignificant headache. He casts vivid light on things we normally take for granted, such as the human capacity to laugh or cry, and in the process broadens our vision of human existence. The apparently mundane human experiences of forgetting and remembering are intrinsic to our humanity, for example, and have unsuspected moral and spiritual dimensions. Steiner’s insights are never merely ‘lofty’ or nebulously ‘spiritual’ but time and again connect with the minutest realities of everyday life.

In these 18 lectures, delivered on a weekly basis as part of an ongoing course covering ‘the whole field of spiritual science’, Steiner elaborates in detail on the diverse interplay of the human being’s constituting aspects (physical body, etheric body, astral body and ego or ‘I’) in relation to rhythmic processes, developing consciousness, the history of human evolution, and our connection with the cosmos. Within this broad canvas, some of his themes acquire a very distinctive focus – such as vivid accounts of the ‘intimate history’ of Christianity, ‘creating out of nothing’, the interior of the earth, and health and illness. Other topics include: the nature of pain, suffering, pleasure and bliss; the four human group souls of lion, bull, eagle and man; the significance of the Ten Commandments; the nature of original sin; the deed of Christ and the adversary powers of Lucifer, Ahriman and the Asuras; evolution and involution; the Atlantean period – and even Friedrich Nietzsche’s madness!

The first 9 lectures in this book wre originally published under the title "Evolution and the Being of Man"

STEINER, RUDOLF, BAMFORD, C., PARKER, A.H., GATES, J.
0880104201 / 9780880104203 2007 Paperback
On February 3, 1913, the first General Meeting of the newly formed Anthroposophical Society was convened in Berlin. Six weeks later, in Holland, Rudolf Steiner spoke for the first time to an anthroposophic audience in a detailed, intimate way about individual esoteric training and the subtle effects of spiritual development on every level of one's being.

Beginning with questions regarding the body’s experience of food and drink—meat, coffee, alcohol, and so on—he lays out the progression of anthroposophic spiritual inner work, up to direct perception of “Paradise” and the Holy Grail. He discusses the role of human beings in our evolution that takes place between the forces of Lucifer and Ahriman.

Included is Steiner’s important lecture “The Being of Anthroposophy,” which this volume introduces to the English-speaking world. This edition also includes Steiner’s “introductory words,” previously available only as an unpublished German typescript.

Pitfalls await those on the path of spiritual knowledge. Dr. Steiner’s poignant depiction of self-love can be especially helpful. This love rises like a force of nature in one who follows a spiritual path. He also explores the encounter with the double, the influences of Lucifer and Ahriman, the role of fear, and the polar tendencies toward phenomenology and mysticism.

(15 lectures, Dornach, Sept.- Oct. 1918, CW 184.
In what has been referred to as ‘the most advanced course in anthroposophy’, Rudolf Steiner addresses one of the great questions of our time: the role of evil in human development. He speaks of the year 666, when three time streams intersected – the familiar linear stream and two ‘lateral’ streams – and the reoccurrence of the 666-year rhythm in history. At the heart of this mystery is the being Sorat (‘the beast’), who attempted to flood humanity with premature spiritual knowledge by inspiring the scholars of the ancient Academy of Gondishapur. Although responsible for the saving of Aristotle’s works, Steiner describes how the Academy generated tremendous but dangerous gnostic wisdom, which eventually spread through the Christian monasteries and inspired Western scientific thought. Its immediate negative impact, however, had to be counteracted by the Prophet Muhammad and the founding of Islam.

In contrast to the 666-year rhythm in history, the 333-year rhythm is connected to the healing forces of the Mystery of Golgotha. The year 333 was a central point in the post-Atlantean age, but also a pivotal moment in establishing the Christ Impulse and the new equilibrium it brought to humanity, allowing people to gain wisdom through their own efforts. Such wisdom enables insight into three key areas: supersensible knowledge of birth and death; understanding of an individual’s life; and the ability consciously to confront the adversarial beings of Lucifer and Ahriman.

Steiner addresses a host of additional themes, including occult Freemasonry in Anglo-American countries; materialism in the Roman Catholic Church; prophetic and apocalyptic vision; dualism and fatalism in pre-Christian times; and the delusion of time and space. Seeking to awaken his listeners to the urgency of the tasks ahead of them, he urges that spiritual understanding be enlivened with enthusiasm, fire and warmth of heart.

8 Evil
STEINER, RUDOLF, BARTON, M.
1855840464 / 9781855840461 2003 Paperback
In this selection of insightful lectures, Rudolf Steiner addresses the mystery of evil, offering a complex and original picture. Evil, he asserts, is a phenomenon that arises when something appears outside its true context. A thing which is initially "good, " therefore, can become "evil" when it is out of place. He speaks of this as the effect of particular spiritual beings -- principally Lucifer and Ahriman -- who work as polar forces, putting hindrances in our path. Yet confronting and coming to terms with such difficulties can ultimately further our development, as these fascinating lectures show us.

The remarkable discussions in this volume took place between Rudolf Steiner and workers at the Goetheanum, Switzerland. The varied subject-matter was chosen by his audience at Rudolf Steiner's instigation. Steiner took their questions and usually gave immediate answers. The astonishing nature of these responses - their insight, knowledge and spiritual depth - is testimony to his outstanding ability as a spiritual initiate and profound thinker. Accessible, entertaining and stimulating, the records of these sessions will be a delight to anybody with an open mind.

In this particular collection, Rudolf Steiner deals with topics ranging from limestone to Lucifer! He discusses, among other things, technology; the living earth; natural healing powers; colour and sickness; rainbows; whooping cough and pleurisy; seances; sleep and sleeplessness; dreams; reincarnation; life after death; the physical, ether and astral bodies and the 'I'; the two Jesus children; Ahriman and Lucifer; the death, resurrection and ascension of Christ; Dante and Copernicus.

‘Spiritual knowledge is not given to us as in ancient times. By spiritual means it must be struggled and striven for against a host of demons... We must therefore get to know the powers that would cover up and obscure all spiritual knowledge.’ – from the Preface
‘The world seems to be standing within a demonic storm that threatens to overwhelm it’, states T.H. Meyer at the outset of this rousing call for a wide-ranging, spiritual-scientific knowledge of the world. Appeals to traditional religious belief will no longer pacify this storm, and neither will ‘good will’ suffice. Building on Rudolf Steiner’s anthroposophy, In the Sign of Five tackles the central task of our epoch: the epistemological struggle with evil, and presents the five most important spiritual events since the beginning of the Age of Michael:
1879 – the rise of Michael to the rank of Time Spirit;
1899 – the end of Kali Yuga;
1933 – the appearance of Christ in the Etheric;
1998 – the assault of Sorath, ‘one of the greatest ahrimanic demons’;
The present – the incarnation of Ahriman.
These events are linked to the five main tasks of the Age of Michael, the great challenge of inner knowledge and spiritual consciousness posed by the epoch as a whole. In the light of world history, and within the context of ‘the sign of five’, we stand today at the fifth place – at the point of the incarnation of Ahriman. Is humanity prepared for this decisive event? Have we recognised the phenomena of evil that surround us on a daily basis? Have the tasks corresponding to the five events been identified, and to what extent have they been carried out? How is evil related to ‘the good’ that guides the world, and specifically to the Christ impulse? Meyer provides a vital, pithy, aphoristic handbook for our apocalyptic times.
T.H. MEYER was born in Switzerland in 1950. He is the founder and publisher of Perseus Verlag, Basel, and editor of the monthly journals Der Europaer and The Present Age. He is the author of several books including Ludwig Polzer-Hoditz, A Biography; D.N. Dunlop, A Biography; Rudolf Steiner’s Core Mission; The Bodhisattva Question; Clairvoyance and Consciousness and Reality, Truth and Evil, and editor of Light for the New Millennium. He has written numerous articles and gives seminars and lectures around the world.

11 Incarnation of Ahriman, The The Embodiment of Evil on Earth
STEINER, RUDOLF, BARTON, M.
1855841789 / 9781855841789 2006 Paperback
While we know of Ahriman from Persian mythology, Rudolf Steiner spoke of him as an actual, living spiritual entity. This being, he said, works to embed people firmly into physicality, encouraging dull, materialistic attitudes and a philistine, dry intellect. In these extraordinary lectures Steiner, in rare prophetic mode, talks about an actual incarnation of Ahriman on the earth and the potential consequences. Just as Christ incarnated in a physical body, so would Ahriman incarnate in the Western world - before 'a part' of the third millennium had passed. Steiner places this incarnation in the context of a 'cosmic triad' - Lucifer, Christ and Ahriman. Ahriman will incarnate as a counterpoint to the physical incarnation of Lucifer in the East in the third millennium BC, with the incarnation of Jesus Christ in Palestine as the balancing point between the two. Over the period during which Steiner developed anthroposophy - a speaking career that spanned two decades and more than six thousand lectures - he referred to the idea of Ahriman's incarnation only six times.
These six lectures, together with an additional supporting excerpt, are reproduced in their entirety, and under one cover, for the first time.

In these lectures, Steiner focuses on the vital task of developing the proper orientation toward a free spiritual life. With great compassion and understanding, he offers telling examples of how humanity must walk a conscious middle way between the two tempting powers of Lucifer and Ahriman. He describes the incarnation of Lucifer in the third millennium before the Christ event, out of which flowed not just the wisdom of paganism, but also the conscious intellect we enjoy today. Ahriman, on the other hand, is shown approaching human beings through such phenomena as materialism, nationalism, and literalism, all in preparation for his incarnation in the third millennium. Keep in mind, however, that these two powers do not work separately; rather, they are working increasingly together. Our task as human beings is to hold them in balance, continually permeating one with the other. Steiner tells us that Lucifer and Ahriman must be regarded as two scales of a balance, and it is we who must hold the beam in equipoise. How can we train ourselves to do this? By permeating what takes ahrimanic form within us with a strongly luciferic element.ö To accomplish this task we need a new, more conscious inner life.

13 Michael's Mission Revealing the Essential Secrets of Human Nature

‘...
This will generate a struggle covering the face of the whole earth. The one and only remedy for this nonsense being made of human evolution will be the path that can lead humanity to the spirit – the path of Michael, which finds its continuation in the path of Christ.’ – Rudolf Steiner
Speaking in the aftermath of the Great War, Rudolf Steiner presents a series of extraordinary lectures on the power and mission of the Archangel Michael. He paints on a broad canvas – in the context of cosmic and human evolution – revealing Michael’s tasks in the past, present and future. Originally the countenance of Yahweh, Michael has metamorphosed from a ‘night spirit’ to a ‘day spirit’. As ‘the Countenance of Christ’, Michael helps us find a balance between ‘Luciferic’ and ‘Ahrimanic’ tendencies. The old ‘dualism’ (such as good versus evil), says Steiner, needs to be replaced by the trinity of Lucifer-Christ-Ahriman. Filling our heart with the Christ Impulse creates an equilibrium between the Luciferic influence that imbues our head and the Ahrimanic influence at work in our limbs.
Rudolf Steiner describes how humanity faces three dangers in the social sphere: spiritual life could flow into the ‘pit of mendacity’ ruled by Ahriman, individual rights might descend into the ‘pit of selfishness’ (Lucifer), and economics into cultural sickness and death (Asuras). In order to prevent European-American culture from perishing, it will be necessary to turn towards contemporary ‘threefold’ social ideas.

Steiner also speaks about the principle of metamorphosis in connection with evolution and devolution, as evident in the design of the pillars in the newly-built Goetheanum. Architectural styles are an expression of human evolution, as can be seen in Greek temples, gothic Cathedrals, the Grail temple and the building at Dornach. Amidst many other themes, Rudolf Steiner addresses the problem of natural necessity and freedom, and the abolition of the trichotomy of body, soul and spirit at the Council of Constantinople in AD 869.

These lectures deal not only with the theme of initiation into the ancient mysteries and how that contrasts with what is required today of people treading a spiritual path of knowledge, but also covers such topics as the working of Lucifer and Ahriman in the threefold organization of the human being; the relationship of the individual to the folk spirit; and the need to think with exactitude and impartiality. The last four lectures examine in some detail the impulse of freedom behind the work of Goethe and Schiller, particularly Faust and the Aesthetic Letters, and draw interesting connections with Shakespeare, on the one hand, and the French Revolution, on the other.

15 Representative of Humanity, The Between Lucifer and Ahriman - The Wooden Model at the Goetheanum
HALLE, JUDITH VON, WILKES, JOHN
1855842394 / 9781855842397 2010 Paperback
FULL COLOUR THROUGHOUT
In conceiving his architectural masterpiece - the Goetheanum in Dornach, Switzerland - Rudolf Steiner designed a large wooden model, featuring three main figures, to be placed in a central position inside the building. Known as 'the Representative of Humanity', this sculpture shows a central, free-standing Christ holding a balance between the beings of Lucifer and Ahriman, who represent polar tendencies of expansion and contraction. On New Year's Eve 1922 the Goetheanum was destroyed by fire, but the model - still in a process of creation and therefore housed in an external studio - miraculously escaped the flames. It remains intact to this day in the second Goetheanum, where it can be viewed by the public.
With numerous full colour photos and illustrations, The Representative of Humanity offers a vivid introduction to this monumental, world-historic artwork. We follow the evolution of the statue through the photographic documentation of many models created in its development: from six smaller versions to a full-size plasticine construction. This latter model - also still on display - offers an impressive insight into the artists' detailed intentions, having been repeatedly revised by Rudolf Steiner. It demonstrates the continual spiritual movement evident in the whole series of small models, and the metamorphic processes which developed over an eight-year period.
The authors offer indications regarding the realm and content out of which the work arose, the environment in which it is situated, and the artists who created it: Rudolf Steiner and the trained sculptress Edith Maryon. They also examine the intentions behind a work of art that addresses the destiny of the whole of mankind.
JOHN WILKES began restoration work on Steiner's and Maryon's sculptural and architectural legacy in 1965. A large number of wax and plasticine models had been deteriorating over the decades. Included was the nine metre high, preparatory plasticine model required for building the wooden sculpture in 1917.
JUDITH VON HALLE attended school in Germany and the USA and subsequently studied architecture. She encountered anthroposophy in 1997, at which time she was running her own architectural practice. She now works principally as a lecturer and author, having some 12 books in print.

16 Rudolf Steiner's Sculptural Group A Revelation of the Spiritual Purpose of Humanity and the Earth
PROKOFIEFF, SERGEI
1906999457 / 9781906999452
‘After Rudolf Steiner’s experience of the Christ mystery, which he describes in his autobiography as "having stood in spirit before the Mystery of Golgotha", the revealing of this mystery to all people of good will - not only in the form of knowledge but also through art, which makes it accessible to direct perception - was one of the most important aims of his life.’ - Sergei O. Prokofieff
Saved by good fortune from the flames that engulfed the first Goetheanum, Rudolf Steiner’s wooden sculpture of the Christ - ‘the Representative of Humanity’ - standing between the adversary forces of Lucifer and Ahriman, remains intact, although unfinished, and on display to this day. Unique in the history of art, the Sculptural Group was deeply connected to Rudolf Steiner’s inner being. The great Christian initiate even died by its side, having made efforts to work on the sculpture days before he crossed the threshold. The essential source from which this work was created, says Sergei Prokofieff, ‘... lay in Rudolf Steiner’s ego, in his spirit... It was only out of this intuitive connection of his own ego with the Christ Being that he was able to create this work of art.’
Beginning with the Sculptural Group’s early history, and Steiner’s collaboration on its creation with Edith Maryon, Prokofieff enters into deeply esoteric perspectives, studying the artwork’s relationship with the mysteries of the Holy Grail, the etherization of the blood, the Seventh Apocalyptic Seal, the Legend of the New Isis, as well as the being Anthroposophia.
SERGEI O. PROKOFIEFF, born in Moscow in 1954, studied painting and art history at the Moscow School of Art. He encountered anthroposophy in his youth, and soon made the decision to devote his life to it. He has been active as an author and lecturer since 1982, and in 1991 he co-founded the Anthroposophical Society in Russia. In Easter 2001 he became a member of the Executive Council of the General Anthroposophical Society in Dornach. He is the author of dozens of books, including May Human Beings Hear It!, The Occult Significance of Forgiveness and The Appearance of Christ in the Etheric.

illustrations a reappearance could take place, mankind 'must have passed through the encounter with the Beast, which will appear in 1933'; and secondly that, around the end of the twentieth century, 'Sorath' - the Sun Demon - would oppose people's personal vision of the etheric Christ.

Taking these statements as his starting point, Tradowsky examines the question of evil and its relationship to Christ. He describes Sorath and his activities, asserting that knowledge of this elusive and terrible being helps individuals to overcome him; and he explains the role of the 'Apocalyptic Beast' in relation to Ahriman - or Antichrist - and the latter's physical incarnation on earth.

Intended for those with a close concern for anthroposophy, this book provides essential background information to understanding the events of our time and clarifying our tasks in relation to Christ, evil and the new millennium.

In our materialistic and skeptical age, it can be difficult to take seriously the existence of real spiritual beings. Nevertheless, countless individuals -- from the historic founders of religions to those who have been through near-death experiences -- have spoken of beings of Light, such as Angels and Archangels, and 'evil' beings, spirits of darkness.

The author, basing his work on Rudolf Steiner's teachings, presents an epic picture of the forces of 'good' and 'evil' -- a battle of cosmic dimensions in which we are all intimately involved. He clarifies the pivotal role of the Archangel Michael, the 'Guardian of Cosmic Intelligence, ' who fights to hold the balance between the key powers of evil in our time -- Lucifer and Ahriman -- and describes other members of the evil hierarchies. He also discusses the biblical Apocalypse of St. John, the Mexican Mysteries, and much else. This book is an essential guide to meeting the challenge of evil at the new millennium.
