This book, in the style of a symbol dictionary, is beautifully presented with 101 colour photographs of the animals. Each animal is discussed from the point of view of its actual behaviour in nature. The animal's role in mythology and fairy tale is then considered, and, drawing upon this material, each animal's possible symbolic meanings in dreams are related in a very readable manner.

Mark Purdey's life changed one day in 1984 when a Ministry of Agriculture inspector told him he must administer a toxic organophosphate pesticide to his dairy herd. Passionately committed to organic farming and convinced of the harmful effects of chemicals in the environment, he refused to comply. 'It was as if my whole life became focused', he explained later. Before they had a chance to prosecute, Purdey took the Ministry to court and won his case. These experiences led him to challenge the orthodox line on the origins of Mad Cow Disease and its human counterpart variant CJD. Could the insecticide used in the official programme have precipitated the spread of the disease?Purdey's quest to discover the truth was hampered at every turn by government bureaucracies and self-serving scientific cliques who sought to smear and marginalize him. Dogged by dirty tricks and forced to work alone as something of a scientific sleuth, he struggled to reveal hidden interests and dangerous secrets. His supporters included many members of the public, as well as Prince Charles and the poet Ted Hughes. The latter wrote to him expressing 'a million congratulations'.Increasingly sceptical of the official narrative, Purdey was certain that toxic environmental factors would provide answers, and so embarked on a self-funded worldwide odyssey to investigate.
"Animal Pharm" follows him on these eco-detective trails to locations as diverse as Iceland, Sardinia, Colorado and Australia. Purdey uncovers contamination from industry, munitions, pesticides, nuclear experiments and natural geology, linking these with the emergence of a range of neurodegenerative diseases. His research is at once compelling and disturbing, helping to create a paradigm shift in our understanding of the relationship of pollutants to disease and health.

6 Animals An Imaginative Zoology
KONIG, KARL, AYLWARD, RICHARD
0863159664 / 9780863159664 2013 Paperback
Karl Konig, the founder of the Camphill movement, had great compassion and empathy for people on the margins of society. Equally, he felt the same brotherly feelings towards the animal world. This remarkable book offers a closer understanding of some specific mammals, fish and birds and, along the way, great insight into human nature as well. A combination of three previous editions, Konig considers the mythological and historical background, and unique characteristics, of elephants, bears, horses, cats and dogs; penguins, seals, dolphins, salmon and eels; and swans and stork, sparrows and doves. Together, the lively sketches form a visionary zoology.

Beyond the Market Economics for the 21st Century, ASSENZA, GAUDENZ
7 Beyond the Market Economics for the 21st Century
ASSENZA, GAUDENZ
0948229152 / 9780948229152
Market economics is largely contradicted by the developments that accompany it. Particularly in the West, economic life has become intimately bound up with the state, making a mockery of the idea of the free play of market forces. On the other hand, when market forces do prevail, it is often at great, and unacceptable, environmental and social cost.

This book looks beyond the economics of capitalism and communism to explore what can be derived from a recognition of the economic process as such. The wisdom inherent in this process, translated into equitable economic conduct, can provide the resource sustainability and service to humanity as a whole that most people today seem to be seeking.

Dr. Gaudenz B. Assenza completed a dual-degree management program at the European Partnership of Business Schools in Germany and England before specializin on comparative development at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University (1992–1994). In 1993, he worked as a research analyst at the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva, writing a report on the threats to economic and political stability in the former Soviet republics of Central Asia. After graduating from Harvard, Dr. Assenza worked eight years as a research fellow at the Fridtjof Nansen Institute (FNI), a Norwegian think tank focusing on energy, environment and development (1994–2002). He also completed research stays at Oxford University and the International Finance Corporation. Since 1999, he has taught at several universities in Central Europe, including universities in Prague, Karvina, and Ostrava. Since April 2004, Dr. Assenza has been a visiting professor in the Department of Political Science at the Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena, Germany. In 2005, he completed a post-doctoral thesis and is currently working as an author, coordinator, and coeditor on a book series, investigating the relations between states (politics) and markets (economics) in the area of international environmental policy.

8 Biodynamic Agriculture
SCHILTHUIS, WILLY
0863153976 / 9780863153976 2003 2 Paperback
50 colour photographs and 8 diagrams
Biodynamics is an internationally recognized approach to organic agriculture in which the farmer or gardener respects and works with the spiritual dimension of the earth's environment. In a world where conventional agricultural methods threaten the environment, biodynamic farms and gardens are designed to have a sound ecological balance. This concise and fully illustrated book presents evidence that biodynamic crops put down deeper roots, show strong resistance to disease and have better keeping qualities than conventionally produced crops.

9 Biodynamic Farm, The Agriculture in Service of Earth and Humanity
KOEPF, HERBERT H.
0880101725 / 9780880101721 Paperback
Bankrupt farmers, erosion of topsoil, and poor food quality owing to pesticides, hormones, and other additivesùthese are the well-known realities of the modern crisis in farming. This problem is the outcome of the limited vision of conventional methods and a system that focuses exclusively on quick results and profits. The need for changes is clear, and Koepf provides a vast array of research data and results, as well as many helpful details on animal feeding, crop rotation, diseases, pests, and fertilizing. He shows that the biodynamic method of farming and gardening is the alternative that can turn farming around.

Biodynamics is the oldest alternative agricultural movement in the world. It is based on the concept of the whole farm as a single organism. Its goals are to protect and nurture the soil, improve the quality of food, and organically integrate the farm into the environment as a whole. This is an essential reference for all farmers who are unsatisfied with conventional methods and for gardeners who wish to improve the quality of life around them as well as the food they serve their families.

10 Biodynamic, Organic, and Natural Winemaking Sustainable Viticulture and Viniculture
KARLSSON, BRITT AND PER
1782501134 / 9781782501138
We constantly notice when we are out talking to winemakers in different wine regions that more and more producers pay attention to how what they do in the vineyard affects the environment. Many winemakers that we meet start the process of 'converting' to organic farming. There are rules for what that means—what an organic farmer can do and what is forbidden—rules that come both from public or government organizations and from private organizations. In addition, people also talk more and more about other related approaches: biodynamic winemaking, natural wines, sustainable farming. In this book we explain them all."

Organic farming, biodynamic wine, natural wines, sustainable winemaking: what do all these concepts really mean, and what benefits can they bring to winemakers?

This comprehensive book by two renowned wine experts explains the rules, the do's and don'ts of organic, biodynamic and natural wine production, both outside in the vineyard and in the wine cellar. It sets out clearly what a winemaker is allowed to do, including processes, additives and chemicals, and looks at the potential long-term benefits of going organic or biodynamic.

This is an invaluable handbook for all winegrowers and winemakers who are considering turning to a more sustainable form of winemaking.

Winner of the “Best Wine Book for Professionals 2012” in Sweden and the “World’s Best Drinks (wine) Education Book,” runner-up 2012.

"There can be no doubt that special traits of character and mental make-up are found in children and adults who belong to the different ranks in the order of birth."

In this classic work, Karl König attempts to explain the various characteristics of first-, second- and third-born people, without losing sight of the tremendous individuality of the human being.

Just as our environment shapes our language, social behaviour and mannerisms, so our place in the family also determines how we encounter life.

This book is a fascinating handbook for parents, teachers and carers. Over the years it has become a definitive reference on the subject of child development.

This newest edition in the Karl König Archive series includes a new introduction by series editor Richard Steel; an extended introduction by Karl König; two new essays: 'The Two Sisters', and 'Brother and Sister' ; some of Karl König's lecture notes and transcriptions, and an essay by A. Limbrunner about the significance of König's work on family order for today.

12 Building Stones for an Understanding of the Mystery of Golgotha Human Life in a Cosmic Context (CW175)
STEINER, RUDOLF
1855844206 / 9781855844209
17 lectures, Berlin, Feb.–May. 1917, CW 175
‘If one is unable to conceive of the Christ mystery as a true reality, one also cannot develop any ideas and concepts relating to the rest of world existence that are imbued with reality, which really penetrate to the truth’. – Rudolf Steiner
In a series of 17 lectures, Rudolf Steiner throws new light on the historical background and esoteric meaning of what he refers to as the central event of human and earthly history: the Christ mystery or ‘the Mystery of Golgotha’. Basing his commentaries on personal spiritual research, Steiner emphasizes the key nature of the Mystery of Golgotha, through which ‘...something was accomplished which has to do not with the moral order alone but with the whole world-order in its entirety’. This relates to a transformation of the spiritual environment of the earth and a potentially radical change in human consciousness.
Building on the core themes of this course, Steiner presents a variety of fascinating topics, including: original sin and the idea of resurrection; faith and knowledge; the nature of sleep and the riddle of fatigue; the violation of the mysteries by the Roman Emperors; the teachings of Mani and Augustine; our relationship to the dead in spiritualistic séances; and the correspondence between the Platonic year, a day in a person’s life and a human life-time.
Although first delivered to audiences a century ago, these lectures have lost none of their resonance; indeed, their essential message is perhaps more relevant than ever. They are published here in a new translation and for the first time in a complete English edition.
‘So let us endeavour to make spiritual science our own not merely as a teaching but as a language, and then wait until we find the questions in this language that we may address to Christ. He will answer, yes He will answer!’

'We cannot hold a torch to another's path without brightening our own.' - Ben Sweetland

When Council Inspector Paul Clark visited the Peredur Trust in Cornwall over 20 years ago, he was under pressure to serve a legal notice to comply with various regulations or face closure. He expected to encounter a cult organization with weird and unpalatable practices. In the event, he found something quite different. As he says in his Foreword: 'I came to inspect - I stopped to evaluate - and I remained to admire!' Paul later became the Trust's chief executive.

The Peredur Trust has been caring for disadvantaged and differently-abled individuals, effectively and successfully, for over 60 years. Siegfried Rudel, its President and one of its four founders, tells the story of how the impulse behind the organisation - which is inspired by the philosophy of Rudolf Steiner - first transpired. But this is not simply the narrative and history of a single organisation. Rather, this book represents a universal cultural impulse that embraces the needs of our time, and one that reappears today in many residential communities for people with special needs around the world.

In a fascinating presentation, and with the aid of many archival photographs, In the Light of the Lanthorn tackles interrelated themes including the arts, the environment, sustainability, agriculture and nutrition - all in the light of working with individuals with special needs.

SIEGFRIED W. RUDEL was born in 1928, in the rural setting of Silesia, then part of Eastern Germany but now Poland. After the turbulence of the war-end he was determined to finish his school years at a Steiner Waldorf School, which he succeeded in doing. He then trained in Special Education, first in Scotland and then Switzerland. A group of four students returned to England in 1951 to found a Home-School for 'maladjusted' children (as they were then referred to). Siegfried has stayed the course throughout the Peredur Trust's 60 adventurous years to date. He is now the charity's President.

Cancer Recovery Guide 15 Alternative and Complementary Strategies for Restoring Health, CHAMBERLAIN, JONATHAN
14 Cancer Recovery Guide 15 Alternative and Complementary Strategies for Restoring Health
CHAMBERLAIN, JONATHAN
1905570392 / 9781905570393 2008 Paperback
In Europe and the USA we have a 40-50 percent chance of getting cancer at some time in our lives. So what do you do if you are diagnosed with the disease? The harshness of orthodox treatments (surgery, radiation and chemotherapy) are well-known. Their use is widespread, but their results are not impressive. Faced with these options, informed patients are increasingly seeking out alternative or complementary strategies to take control of their own healing. This book provides an overview of them. Jonathan Chamberlain watched his wife suffer and eventually die - both from her cancer and from the direct effects of the orthodox treatments she had undergone. This experience led him on a journey in search of other methods of overcoming cancer. What he discovered stunned him. There are cures out there - dozens of them - many offering very good chances of recovery. In "Cancer Recovery Guide" Chamberlain presents 15 simple, practical strategies for becoming well again. These strategies are grouped in three families: those relating to the mind and the emotions (did you know stress makes cancers more aggressive?)
; those relating to the health of the whole body (cancer cannot survive in a tissue environment that is truly healthy); and, those that focus on directly attacking the cancer tumours. The personal stories cited throughout this book testify to the curative possibilities of the strategies presented.

JONATHAN CHAMBERLAIN was brought up in Ireland and Hong Kong, where he lived for many years working as a teacher and writer. His previous works include Cancer: The Complete Recovery Guide, and his website on cancer-related issues is href=www.fightingcancer.com>www.fightingcancer.com. He has also written Chinese Gods, An Introduction to Chinese Folk Religion and King Hui, the man who owned all the opium in Hong Kong. Jonathan is also the founder of two charities: The Hong Kong Down Syndrome Association and Mental Handicap Network China Ltd.

15 Climate: Soul of the Earth Soul of the Earth
KLOCEK, DENNIS
1584200944 / 9781584200949 2011 Paperback
293 colour illustrations
In this original book, Dennis Klocek considers climate to be an expression of Gaia, and presents climate as the soul of Earth within which human beings live and develop. The cosmic destiny of Earth, he argues, is intimately connected with human destiny. He explores Earth's complex climate system, taking the reader through various climate and weather patterns, using case studies of recent events. He explains terms and phenomena and describes the earthly and extra-earthly forces behind weather patterns such as droughts, floods and hurricanes. This is a highly readable, exciting account of a key element of our world which unites lands and humans in one organism.

17 Cosmos, Earth and Nutrition The Biodynamic Approach to Agriculture. The Biodynamic Approach to Agriculture
SMITH, RICHARD THORNTON
1855842270 / 9781855842274 2009 Paperback
Illus
In recent years there has been an explosion of interest in organic and biodynamic produce. Although once marginal and 'alternative', escalating concerns about the environment, health, food quality and animal welfare have brought organics into mainstream consciousness.
Biodynamics, a unique development of the organic approach, does not narrowly focus on agricultural techniques. It was conceived as a new way of thinking about farming, nutrition and the world of nature, allowing for a revitalized relationship with the living soil, the elemental world and the cosmos. Originating from a series of eight lectures given by Dr Rudolf Steiner in 1924, biodynamics broadens the outlook of agriculture and the science behind it, leading to a holistic perspective that incorporates astronomical rhythms and unique preparations for plants and earth.

The author describes the foundations on which not only biodynamics but also the wider organic movement is based. He builds bridges between mainstream science and Steiner's insights, making it easier for the wider organic and ecological movement to approach biodynamic concepts and practise.
This book has much to offer to the beginner as well as to those already involved with biodynamics. Its broad range of topics - including the ecology of the farm organism, food quality and nutrition, community supported agriculture, planetary influences, seed quality, and the vitality of water - contribute to a deeper understanding of the subject. The author is also concerned to promote innovation so that biodynamics moves with the times. An appendix includes details for contacting various elements of the biodynamic world.

DR RICHARD THORNTON SMITH was formerly a geography professor at the University of Leeds, specializing in soil science, environment and conservation. Widely travelled, he has a long-standing interest in indigenous and sustainable farming. He was introduced to the work of Rudolf Steiner at an early age, although his full involvement with biodynamics dates from 1990 when he began to participate in training programmes and workshops at Emerson College, Sussex. In 1996 he began a biodynamic extension programme in Sri Lanka, for which he published a book, most recently updated in 2007. Since 2001 he has been an inspector for the Biodynamic Association's Demeter and Organic Certification in the UK. In 2003 he produced an edited selection of Steiner's work relating to agriculture. He is currently a council member of the Biodynamic Agricultural Association, and lives in Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire.

Dr. Jenny's cymatic images are truly awe-inspiring, not only for their visual beauty in portraying the inherent responsiveness of matter to sound (vibration) but because they inspire a deep recognition that we, too, are part and parcel of this same complex and intricate vibrational matrix - the music of the spheres! These pages illumine the very principles which inspired the ancient Greek philosophers Heraclitus, Pythagoras and Plato, and cosmologists Giordano Bruno and Johannes Kepler.
