About Formative Forces in the Plant World , VAN ROMUNDE DICK
1 About Formative Forces in the Plant World
VAN ROMUNDE DICK
0967505615 / 9780967505619
About Formative Forces in the Plant World is a systematic and strictly phenomenological study of the formation of leaves and blossoms in flowering plants. The text is accompanied by numerous beautiful colored illustrations. Carefully following the form of leaf after leaf, Romunde uncovers basic patterns underlying leaf and blossom formation. In doing so, he leads the active reader toward an experience of the creative form-producing potential of the plant. Those who make the effort to inwardly participate in the formative movements Romunde points to will be richly rewarded.

Addiction is one of the most critical problems of our modern world, affecting children as much as adults. We face not only a widespread dependency on illicit substances, but also addictions to food, beverages, cigarettes and alcohol, as well as electronic gadgetry, online social networks, and entertainment media within a culture of violence, along with excessive and unhealthy sexual practices. This book explores the overall health consequences of addictive behaviour in children and young people, as well as its underlying causes. Drawing on anthroposophical insights, the author sees the child holistically as body, soul and spirit on a developmental journey from newborn to adult. He examines specific addictions through case histories taken from his clinical practice, and offers a tried and tested method to understand and manage each individual child or young person who succumbs to such dependencies. This book will be of value to parents, teachers and health professionals who work with children and adolescents; to young people and adults caught up in unhealthy addictive behaviour; and to all those who wish to understand better their own human nature.

3 Agriculture An Introductory Reader
STEINER, RUDOLF, VON ARNIM, C.
1855841134 / 9781855841130 2003 Paperback
Rudolf Steiner, the often undervalued, multifaceted genius of modern times, contributed much to the regeneration of culture. In addition to his philosophical teachings, he provided ideas for the development of many practical activities including education -- both general and special -- agriculture, medicine, economics, architecture, science, religion, and the arts. Today there are thousands of schools, clinics, farms, and many other organizations based on his ideas.Steiner's original contribution to human knowledge was based on his ability to conduct spiritual research, the investigation of metaphysical dimensions of existence. With his scientific and philosophical training, he brought a new systematic discipline to the field, allowing for conscious methods and comprehensive results. A natural seer from childhood, he cultivated his spiritual vision to a high degree, enabling him to speak with authority on previously veiled mysteries of life.Topics include: the evolving human being; cosmos as the source of life; plants and the living earth; farms and the realms of nature; bringing the chemical elements to life; soil and the world of spirit; supporting and regulating life processes; spirits of the elements; nutrition and vitality; responsibility for the future.

4 Agriculture Course The Birth of the Biodynamic Method
STEINER, RUDOLF, ADAMS, G.
1855841487 / 9781855841482 2004 Paperback
With these talks, Steiner created and launched "biodynamic farming", a form of agriculture that has come to be regarded as the best organically produced food. However, the agriculture Steiner speaks of here is much more than organic - it involves working with the cosmos, with the earth, and with spiritual beings. To facilitate this, Steiner prescribes specific "preparations" for the soil, as well as other distinct methods born from his profound understanding of the material and spiritual worlds. He presents a comprehensive picture of the complex dynamic relationships at work in nature and gives basic indications of the practical measures needed to bring them into full play.

5 Agriculture Course, Koberwitz, Whitsun 1924 Rudolf Steiner and the Beginnings of Biodynamics
SELG, PETER, BARTON, MATTHEW
1906999082 / 9781906999087 2010 Paperback
Recognizing that chemical manipulation of agriculture was neither desirable nor sustainable, Steiner helped launch an agricultural movement whose outlook is truly pioneering in spirit. As Selg describes, Steiner saw that "what was needed instead was new, conscious insight into life forces and laws, into the nature of organisms, into the diverse realms of nature, and the determining factors of both Earth and cosmos that influence them." The vivid picture painted here reveals the importance that Steiner placed on launching this work, as well as the extent to which his initiative offered an answer to the emerging forces of cultural and political destruction that would lead to World War II.

How can we understand the non-denominational nature of the Waldorf school even as we address the central role of the Christ impulse in the Waldorf school? This collection of lectures from the Colloquium held in Spring Valley, NY, January 2005, provides a thoughtful basis for a discussion of this challenging aspect of Waldorf education.

Presenters included: Douglas Gerwin, Douglas Sloan, Betty Staley, Roberto Trostli, and Dorit Winter.

The authors seek to address why “this is not a call to Christian worship nor is it an appeal to any sectarian Christian doctrine.”

0863159664 / 9780863159664 2013 Paperback
Karl Konig, the founder of the Camphill movement, had great compassion and empathy for people on the margins of society. Equally, he felt the same brotherly feelings towards the animal world. This remarkable book offers a closer understanding of some specific mammals, fish and birds and, along the way, great insight into human nature as well. A combination of three previous editions, Konig considers the mythological and historical background, and unique characteristics, of elephants, bears, horses, cats and dogs; penguins, seals, dolphins, salmon and eels; and swans and stork, sparrows and doves. Together, the lively sketches form a visionary zoology.

Today's medicine is strongly influenced by natural science, which focuses entirely on the material nature of reality. Molecular biology has become the foundation of modern medicine with the result that today's medical industry chases after technology to solve all its problems. In the process it is losing its own essence as it moves into fields increasingly alien to human nature as a whole.

Nevertheless, many doctors are beginning to reexamine this exclusive worldview in favor of a more wholistic approach to healing. To this end, anthroposophical medicine encompasses a wide range of healing modalities, including orthodox, allopathic medicine.

The Anthroposophical Approach to Medicine explores the body's relationship to soul and spirit on the basis of Rudolf Steiner's insights into the activities of the spiritual world. Edited by doctors Friedrich Husemann and Otto Wolff, this book invites us to an in-depth view of a true alternative to materialistically oriented medicine. Chapters include essays on childhood development and diseases; the disorders of old age; neuroses and psychological imbalances; pharmacology; healing plants; biochemistry and pathology; blood-work; and special diagnostic techniques.

This first of a multi-volume series is an invaluable tool to all who want to extend the practice of medicine to include the whole human being.

Anthroposophy and the Inner Life An Esoteric Introduction, STEINER, RUDOLF
10 Anthroposophy and the Inner Life An Esoteric Introduction
STEINER, RUDOLF
Paperback
GA234
Although these nine lectures were given to an audience that had been studying anthroposophy, or spiritual science, for many years, they were nevertheless described by Rudolf Steiner as an ‘introductory course’. Given shortly after the Christmas Foundation Meeting, in which Rudolf Steiner refounded and renewed the Anthroposophical Society, these lectures reformulate the content of spiritual science from a condensed, personal, experiential point of view. What Steiner presented in his fundamental work Theosophy in a descriptive, systematic way, is complemented here with great intensity, challenging us to cultivate a living experience of the spiritual nature of ourselves and of the world. This volume is therefore an invaluable companion to the book Theosophy.
Given the unique nature of these lectures, they are suitable for both the advanced student and the beginner who wishes to embark on an exploration, however tentative, of the vast range of Rudolf Steiner’s work.

'I asked Rudolf Steiner: "What will remain of your work thousands of years from now?" He replied: "Nothing but the Philosophy of Freedom. But in it everything else is contained. If one realizes the act of freedom described there, one can discover the whole content of Anthroposophy."' - Walter Johannes Stein

Some people's path to anthroposophy leads them directly to Rudolf Steiner's early work and The Philosophy of Freedom, and this becomes the philosophical basis for their future exploration. Rudolf Steiner referred to this as a 'safe' approach. But many people's destiny leads them directly to anthroposophy itself, or via one of its practical initiatives, making it difficult sometimes for them to relate to the cognitive basis of anthroposophy. In this unique study Sergei O. Prokofieff offers fresh means of access to Rudolf Steiner's crucially important book, The Philosophy of Freedom.

Prokofieff indicates why The Philosophy of Freedom is so important to anthroposophy. It is here that Rudolf Steiner lays the foundations for his method of research. In Steiner's own words: "One who is willing can indeed find the basic principles of anthroposophy in my Philosophy of Freedom". Prokofieff discusses the Christian nature of the anthroposophical method of cognition, and how it is integrally related to freedom and love. This in turn reveals the deeply Christian roots of The Philosophy of Freedom and its importance for modern Christian esotericism. In fact, says Prokofieff, the book holds a 'central position ... in the spiritual history of the Occident'.

In considering its multifaceted 'cosmic-human dimension', the author discusses The Philosophy of Freedom in relation to the Mystery of the Resurrection, the Working of the Hierarchies, the Being Anthroposophia, the Fifth Gospel, Rudolf Steiner's Path of Initiation, the Rosicrucian and Michaelic Impulses, the Life Between Death and Rebirth, the Foundation Stone, the Christian Mysteries of Karma and the Science of the Grail.

SERGEI O. PROKOFIEFF, born in Moscow in 1954, studied painting and art history at the Moscow School of Art. He encountered anthroposophy in his youth, and soon made the decision to devote his life to it. He has been active as an author and lecturer since 1982, and in 1991 he co-founded the Anthroposophical Society in Russia. In Easter 2001 he became a member of the Executive Council of the General Anthroposophical Society in Dornach. Anthroposophy and The Philosophy of Freedom is his twenty-first book to appear in English translation.

port.
Four of Rudolf Steiner's best-loved lectures are collected in this book. They are some of the most accessible presentations of the anthroposophic approach to life available in English. Included are:

Practical Training in Thought
Overcoming Nervousness
Facing Karma
The Four Temperaments
The first lecture concerns the fundamental human activity of thinking. Everything we do, we do through thinking. The first task, then, is to realize the reality of thinking. To help us do this, Steiner gives exercises that will allow us to experience the cognitive, even clairvoyant, power of thinking.

In "Overcoming Nervousness," Steiner shows us how exercises in thinking also give us the calm centered sense needed to lead purposeful, healthy lives.

"Facing Karma" takes us to the heart of life, where we experience suffering and happiness. The law of karma that determines life's experiences and encounters also helps us develop the self-knowledge required for self-transformation.

Finally, "The Four Temperaments" show us how the union of hereditary factors and our own inner spiritual nature shape our psychology. The guide here is the ancient classifications of sanguine, choleric, phlegmatic, and melancholic. Renewed understanding of these allows us to develop a truly modern spiritual psychology, which is the basis of all real inner development.

With its many practical exercises, mantras, and meditations, this book is a fundamental introduction for anyone beginning or needing encouragement along the path of inner development.

Introduction: "Rudolf Steiner’s Faust," by Frederick Amrine
Goethe, the great German polymath poet, scientist, dramatist, and novelist, was a major influence throughout Steiner’s life and teaching. While still a student, Steiner wrote introductions to Goethe’ scientific writings (1884–1890), the collection of which became volume 1 in his Collected Works. He also wrote two volumes on Goethe’s epistemology (1886) and philosophy (1894). As he moved closer to the esoteric world, he also gave seminal lectures on Goethe’s fairy tale, “The Green Snake and the Beautiful Lily.” Gradually, he finally approach Goethe’s masterwork, the epic (and deeply esoteric) drama, Faust.

This book contains fifteen lectures, given between 1910 and 1916. A companion volume (CW 273, forthcoming) contains thirteen more lectures given between 1916 and 1919. Taken together these two volumes illuminate in deeply esoteric ways both Anthroposophy and Goethe’s own astonishing vision; the first volume focusing more on anthroposophy, the second more on Faust.

Beginning with ten short extracts that span twenty years (from the 1880s to 1909), the first lecture sets the tone—Goethe sought spiritual science, Faust is the record of his striving, and we are led to see how Goethe’s great drama is filled with embryonic insights that developed and became Anthroposophy. This theme is then developed, in lecture after lecture, with ever-deepening focus. Whether it is a question of the spiritual nature of matter, the reverence for truth and knowledge, reincarnation, the Mystery of Golgotha, evil, the nature of the elemental world, aesthetics, the challenge of our times, human destiny and the nature evolution, these lectures show Goethe as the great initiate and develop Anthroposophy—Spiritual Science—in a profoundly esoteric light.

Not previously published in English, this volume has been awaited by many. It is essential reading for anyone interested in Rudolf Steiner and spiritual science.

This book is volume 272 in the Collected Works (CW) of Rudolf Steiner, published by SteinerBooks, 2013. It is a translation of the German Geisteswissenschaftliche Erläuterungen zu Goethes Faust. Band I Faust der Strebende Mensch (Novalis-Verlag Verlag, Freiburg im Breisgau, 1955).

Apocalypse, the Transformation of Earth An Esoteric Mineralogy, BENESCH, FRIEDRICH, PREFACE BY ROBERT SARDELLO
14 Apocalypse, the Transformation of Earth An Esoteric Mineralogy
BENESCH, FRIEDRICH, PREFACE BY ROBERT SARDELLO
1584201657 / 9781584201656 2015 1st Edition Paperback / softback
48 colour illustrations
Then I saw “a new Heaven and a new Earth,” for the first heaven and the first Earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” (Rev. 21:1-4)
In the Revelation of St. John, spiritual worlds and spiritual entities appear both in images of the sensory world and in images of the mineral realm. This book discusses these two sides of world manifestation.
It is often argued that the images of St. John's Revelations are intended in a purely symbolic way. If this is so, the mineral appears as a symbol for something of a soul-like and spiritual nature. The Revelator however, did not see symbols but realities; even a symbol can be genuine only if something of the reality for which it stands shines through. It must, in a real way, be inwardly identical with what it intends, the essence from which it stems. Thus it must arise from the same reality. Otherwise it contains no meaning.
The images of the minerals in the Apocalypse are just as much reality as the minerals are on Earth. Neither is essential; both are simply manifestations of something essential. Hence, both are truly apocalyptic - the mineral we hold in our hand and the image we hold in our mind. They reveal themselves mutually.
This book juxtaposes the objects of sensory appearance and natural-scientific research with the sayings of the Revelation of St. John to express the joint background of the appearances. One connected with the other can then lead to an encounter with the essence. Thus, we are dealing with an “esoteric mineralogy.
Friedrich Benesch enables a renewed encounter between the human being and mineral being, from which essence and future can then shine forth. Anyone wanting to look more deeply into the Book of Revelations should read this beautifully illustrated, unique work on its meaning and its significance for both today and the future of humankind and the Earth.

Archetypal Plant, The Rudolf Steiner’s Watercolour Painting, LORD, ANGELA
15 Archetypal Plant, The Rudolf Steiner’s Watercolour Painting
LORD, ANGELA
1906999856 / 9781906999858 2015
Rudolf Steiner painted his Archetypal Plant watercolour in 1924, at a time when contemporary scientific methodologies were emerging and nature was being examined under the microscope. In contrast to the dissecting tendencies of natural science, however, Steiner’s painting depicts the living, dynamic potential which stands behind the plant – lifting us out of the specific genus and providing an image of the growing and formative forces inherent within each individual plant.
Researching Rudolf Steiner’s painting of the Archetypal Plant can help reconnect our outer sense-perceptions with the inner realm of imaginative cognition, releasing us from the spell of matter. To support and enliven such research work and processes, Angela Lord surveys her subject-matter from various aspects, including the historical, evolutionary relationships we share with plants; the representation of plants in art and architecture; plant myths and legends; poetry inspired by flower imagery; cosmic aspects of nature, including earth’s relationships to the sun, moon, planets and stars; formative, creative forces of colours and their relationships to plant forms; and finally, working artistically and painting the Archetypal Plant motif itself.

In developing a broad overview, the author forms a deeper, more complete picture of the plant world, paying homage to its diverse characteristics, and stimulating new perceptions and perspectives. This book is richly illustrated with full-colour images.

ANGELA LORD is a painter, interior colour designer, muralist and art educator. Born in Christchurch, New Zealand, she studied with Gerard Wagner at the Goetheanum Painting School in Dornach, Switzerland. Together with Robert Lord, she is active in Colour Transformation Ltd., a company specializing in Lazure painting, interior design and murals. She recently founded the Columbine Art Academy in Sussex and London, which offers a diploma recognized by the Arts Section at the Goetheanum. She teaches around the world, most recently in China. Art of Speech, The A Practical and Spiritual Guide, LANGMAN, DAWN
17 Art of Speech, The A Practical and Spiritual Guide
LANGMAN, DAWN
1906999651 / 9781906999650
‘The Art of Speech offers to the English language a systematic, in-depth and thoroughly readable exploration of Rudolf Steiner’s original exercises. Langman’s contribution, developed over decades of research, performance and teaching, is filled with relevance for today’s speech artists. The powerful spiritual inspirations that stand behind the spoken word are infused throughout, giving this book its wings.’ – Dr Diane Caracciolo, Associate Professor of Educational Theatre, Adelphi University
‘Langman’s seminal work leads the artist through a portal to an experience of the heart and the genius of speech as “the activity of divine creative beings”.’ – Dr Jane Gilmer, Assistant Professor of Drama, VPA, National Institute of Education, Singapore
‘A prodigious work, intriguing, enlightening and passionate – and the co-ordination with Chekhov invaluable… Those fortunate enough to see Dawn’s solo performances of King Lear and Kaspar Hauser know that this book is the fruit of living and loving experience.’ – Sophia Walsh, pioneer teacher and artist of Speech Formation in the English language, Dornach, Switzerland
The Art of Speech presents a dynamic path of practice leading to an experience of the Word as a living, healing and creative power. Helping to deliver Western intellectual speech from what Artaud described as ‘shrivelled throats’ and ‘monstrous talking abstractions’, Langman brings to life the spiritual realities out of which a true Art of Speech arises. Inspired by Rudolf Steiner and pioneered initially in the German language by Marie Steiner, this artform is illuminated here through the genius of the English language.
Langman builds a bridge between mainstream research into the intrinsic nature of Speech, and the levels of spiritual cognition that led to Rudolf Steiner’s insights. Speech and language can no longer be reduced to an arbitrary collection of abstract symbols, she asserts. This book will inspire those working with these disciplines as practitioners (both artistic and therapeutic) as well as those who wish to understand their significance in human evolution, both past and future.
Following her first book The Art of Acting, this volume completes a foundation of understanding for an exploration – in the conclusion of Langman’s trilogy – of an integrated art of speech and acting. Grounded in the spiritual reality of the human being, Langman presents a systematic methodology with which to explore Rudolf Steiner’s Speech and Drama Course.
DAWN LANGMAN undertook a mainstream speech and acting training in Australia, followed by seven years of performing and teaching at secondary and tertiary levels. Her quest for an integrated approach that includes the spiritual dimension led her to train with Maisie Jones at the London School of Speech Formation in the method developed by Rudolf and Marie Steiner. She then taught for ten years at Emerson College in Sussex. Following this, Dawn trained in Michael Chekhov’s acting technique with Ted Pugh and Fern Sloan of the Actors Ensemble in New York. Returning to Australia, she founded the School of the Living Word, where for eight years she continued to research the integration of Speech Formation with Chekhov’s technique. She currently teaches this methodology at the Drama Centre, Flinders University, South Australia. Dawn is the author of The Art of Acting (2014).

18 Astronomy and Astrology Finding a Relationship to the Cosmos
STEINER, RUDOLF, VON ARNIM, C.
1855842238 / 9781855842236 2009 Paperback
In the Middle Ages, Astronomia - one of the Seven Liberal Arts - was as much about astrology as astronomy. In fact the two disciplines only parted company in the seventeenth century, as the materialistic world-view gained greater prominence. Where once human destiny was connected to stars and planets, and spiritual or soul qualities were associated with the natural world, now the cosmos was seen as consisting of gases, fire and dead rock.

Rudolf Steiner brings a new spiritual perspective to our study of the heavens. Humanity, he says, is intimately connected to cosmic beings, who in turn are related to planets and stars. There is meaning in the cosmos. Although Steiner rejects the simplistic notion of the planets determining our lives and behaviour, he makes a clear connection between the heavenly bodies and human beings. Whilst criticizing the superficial nature of much astrology, Steiner shows that as individuals, and with the guidance of spiritual beings, we choose an appropriate time of birth to match the destiny we are to live.

This enlightening anthology, expertly collated by Margaret Jonas, features excerpts of Steiner's work on the spiritual individualities of the planets, the determination of human characteristics by the constellation at birth, the cultural epochs and the passage of the equinox, cosmic influences on the individual and humanity, life in the planetary spheres between death and rebirth, solar and lunar eclipses, comets, and much more.

Modern science tells us that we are an insignificant accident in a vast, indifferent universe. Rudolf Steiner maintains instead that we are intimately enmeshed with the whole cosmos, right down to the physical structure of our bodies. In these talks, he explores our relationship as individuals to the spiritual cosmos, in which we will all become cosmonauts, eventually. The key to being at home in the universe is to understand the significance of our individual, physical lives on earth and what happens when we leave our physical bodies behind.

Steiner encapsulates his view of our journey after death and our return to earth and a new life. He describes the "planetary" spheres through which we each pass and their effects on our future. He shows us how our character and actions on earth affect us after we die and how those experiences shape our next physical life.

This is not merely information to be added to our already over-abundant store of abstract concepts: Steiner gives us imaginative exercises that help us explore our suprasensory, or spiritual, human nature. We can begin now to act more consciously by recognizing the concrete nature of morality and the real consequences of our present lives.

The introduction and comprehensive afterword by Paul Margulies explain and contextualize Steiner's text, revealing a message that is more vital and relevant than ever in our frenzied, materialistic times. This book can help us experience more meaning in life and become more at home as spiritual citizens of the universe.

The time of Nazi dictatorship in Germany (1933-45) consistently stimulates more interest than any other period of human history, as witnessed by the countless books and other media on Adolf Hitler and his leading henchmen. What is the basis for this enduring fascination? And, does the abundance of available material help us truly to understand the phenomenon?
In this clear-sighted study, Tautz concludes that there is an existential need for the human psyche to come to terms with the forces of destruction that broke out during the era of National Socialism. In an attempt to get to the essence of the phenomenon, he employs the method of ‘historical symtomatology’, as developed by the philosopher and scientist Rudolf Steiner. Through these means, ‘... the historical process is perceived as the physiognomic expression of spiritual forces’. By viewing events as symptoms, the outer facts become transparent to the hidden influences that lie behind them, and occult aspects are revealed.
Tautz focuses on the degenerate elements that inspired National Socialism – their meaning, nature and methods – and examines their manifestation in earthly events. He reveals the spiritual context in which these adversary, opposing forces erupted and attacked humanity – at a time when human consciousness had stepped over a new threshold. The Nazi functionaries and their spectral leader, whom he refers to as ‘the Medium’, willingly served these powers, whilst the bedazzled masses were largely passive. If we are serious about developing an egalitarian society today that corresponds to the present level of human evolution, he argues, we need to understand this period of tyranny in Germany at the deepest levels.
In addition to Tautz’s classic text, a new Appendix by Andreas Bracher brings the reader up to date with a survey of relevant literature on the theme as well as an insightful review of the Nazis’ attitude to Rudolf Steiner and the anthroposophical movement he founded. Contemporary extracts from the Völkische Beobachter (the Nazi’s house journal) indicate the viciousness and hatred directed towards Steiner and anthroposophy by the National Socialists.
JOHANNES TAUTZ – author, historian, religious scholar, anthroposophist and Waldorf teacher (at the first Steiner school in Stuttgart, Germany) – was born in 1914 in Koblenz. He studied German and History, graduating with a dissertation on Schelling. The author of W.J. Stein, A Biography, he lived in Darmstadt, Germany until his death in 2008.
