Anthroposophy A Concise Introduction to Rudolf Steiner's Spiritual Philosophy, OORT, HENK VAN
1 Anthroposophy A Concise Introduction to Rudolf Steiner's Spiritual Philosophy
1902636929 / 9781902636924 2008 Paperback
People today recognise Rudolf Steiner's work largely because of initiatives such as the worldwide Waldorf school movement, biodynamic agriculture, and anthroposophic medicine. Nevertheless, the comprehensive spiritual philosophy behind these movements is not so well known. In this concise presentation, based on years of teaching introductory courses on the subject, van Oort presents an overview of key aspects of Steiner's thought. He deals with concepts such as body, soul, and spirit; the relationship between humankind and the animal kingdom; and the evolution of consciousness, a topic that opens panoramic vistas of human development in the form of successive cultural periods extending over thousands of years.

Henk van Oort, born in 1943, trained as a primary teacher before earning a Masters degree in English at the Amsterdam University. He has taught for forty years in primary and secondary education, including class teaching in a Waldorf school, teaching English, and leading educational courses and seminars for teachers and parents. His interest in literature and poetry has led to his appearance at storytelling and poetry seminars, and his introductory courses to Anthroposophy have been highly successful. Based in Bergen N.H. in the Netherlands, Henk van Oort is married and the father of three.

Anthroposophy and the Philosophy of Freedom Anthroposophy and Its Method of Cognition, the Christological and Cosmic-human Dimension of the Philosophy of Freedom, PROKOFIEFF, SERGEI O., ST.GOAR, MARIA
2 Anthroposophy and the Philosophy of Freedom Anthroposophy and Its Method of Cognition, the Christological and Cosmic-human Dimension of the Philosophy of Freedom
1906999023 / 9781906999025 2009 Paperback
'I asked Rudolf Steiner: "What will remain of your work thousands of years from now?" He replied: "Nothing but the Philosophy of Freedom. But in it everything else is contained. If one realizes the act of freedom described there, one can discover the whole content of Anthroposophy."' - Walter Johannes Stein

Some people's path to anthroposophy leads them directly to Rudolf Steiner's early work and The Philosophy of Freedom, and this becomes the philosophical basis for their future exploration. Rudolf Steiner referred to this as a 'safe' approach. But many people's destiny leads them directly to anthroposophy itself, or via one of its practical initiatives, making it difficult sometimes for them to relate to the cognitive basis of anthroposophy. In this unique study Sergei O. Prokofieff offers fresh means of access to Rudolf Steiner's crucially important book, The Philosophy of Freedom.

Prokofieff indicates why The Philosophy of Freedom is so important to anthroposophy. It is here that Rudolf Steiner lays the foundations for his method of research. In Steiner's own words: "One who is willing can indeed find the basic principles of anthroposophy in my Philosophy of Freedom". Prokofieff discusses the Christian nature of the anthroposophical method of cognition, and how it is integrally related to freedom and love. This in turn reveals the deeply Christian roots of The Philosophy of Freedom and its importance for modern Christian esotericism. In fact, says Prokofieff, the book holds a 'central position ... in the spiritual history of the Occident'.

In considering its multifaceted 'cosmic-human dimension', the author discusses The Philosophy of Freedom in relation to the Mystery of the Resurrection, the Working of the Hierarchies, the Being Anthroposophia, the Fifth Gospel, Rudolf Steiner's Path of Initiation, the Rosicrucian and Michaelic Impulses, the Life Between Death and Rebirth, the Foundation Stone, the Christian Mysteries of Karma and the Science of the Grail.

SERGEI O. PROKOFIEFF, born in Moscow in 1954, studied painting and art history at the Moscow School of Art. He encountered anthroposophy in his youth, and soon made the decision to devote his life to it. He has been active as an author and lecturer since 1982, and in 1991 he co-founded the Anthroposophical Society in Russia. In Easter 2001 he became a member of the Executive Council of the General Anthroposophical Society in Dornach. Anthroposophy and The Philosophy of Freedom is his twenty-first book to appear in English translation.

3 Anthroposophy Has Something to Add to Modern Sciences
0957818947 / 9780957818941 2005 Paperback
Rudolf Steiner shows convincingly that the methods and findings of anthroposophical spiritual science may be seen as a vital contribution to the spheres of the academic sciences. One of anthroposophy's central aims is to enhance human powers of perception beyond the limits set by purely intellectual thinking. This is of vital importance for the scientists of today and the problems they face. In fact, given recent developments in gene technology etc., it could be argued that his words are more significant today than ever before. This volume includes two series of public lectures given at the request of young anthroposophists connected with the university in Zurich.

4 Anthroposophy in Everyday Life
0880104279 / 9780880104272 1995 Paperback
Four of Rudolf Steiner's best-loved lectures are collected in this book. They are some of the most accessible presentations of the anthroposophic approach to life available in English. Included are:

Practical Training in Thought
Overcoming Nervousness
Facing Karma
The Four Temperaments
The first lecture concerns the fundamental human activity of thinking. Everything we do, we do through thinking. The first task, then, is to realize the reality of thinking. To help us do this, Steiner gives exercises that will allow us to experience the cognitive, even clairvoyant, power of thinking.

In "Overcoming Nervousness," Steiner shows us how exercises in thinking also give us the calm centered sense needed to lead purposeful, healthy lives.

"Facing Karma" takes us to the heart of life, where we experience suffering and happiness. The law of karma that determines life's experiences and encounters also helps us develop the self-knowledge required for self-transformation.

Finally, "The Four Temperaments" show us how the union of hereditary factors and our own inner spiritual nature shape our psychology. The guide here is the ancient classifications of sanguine, choleric, phlegmatic, and melancholic. Renewed understanding of these allows us to develop a truly modern spiritual psychology, which is the basis of all real inner development.

With its many practical exercises, mantras, and meditations, this book is a fundamental introduction for anyone beginning or needing encouragement along the path of inner development.

Archangel Michael, The His Mission and Ours, STEINER, RUDOLF, BAMFORD, CHRISTOPHER
5 Archangel Michael, The His Mission and Ours
0880103787 / 9780880103787 1994 Paperback
"The Michael age has dawned. Hearts begin to have thoughts. Enthusiasm no longer flows from mystical obscurity, but from the inner clarity that thought conveys. To grasp this is to receive Michael into one's soul. Thoughts that today seek to grasp the spirit must spring from hearts that beat for Michael as the fiery cosmic prince of thought." Rudolf Steiner

For centuries, the tradition of the "mystical chronology" of the world's seven Archangelic Regents has been part of Western esoteric teaching. According to this tradition, 1879 marked the return of the solar spirit Michael - the Archangel of the Sun - to oversee earthly evolution. Steiner always placed his life and work in the service of Michael's evolutionary task. And he recognized that, at the beginning of the twentieth century, humanity emerged from the Kali Yuga, or Dark Age, and entered the Age of Light. Against this background, Steiner described the ascent of Michael as cosmic ruler, his battle with the "dragon" of the spirits of darkness, and his roles as the countenance of Christ and the guardian of cosmic intelligence.
He also gave many profound indications of how Michael's evolutionary task depends on the free and independent collaboration of human co-workers.

Speaking on behalf of Michael, Steiner laid out the essentials for a new Michaelic path to full humanity. Among the elements of this path are the development of selfless individuality; cosmopolitanism; the practice of the presence of Christ; fearlessness; the transformation of thinking and perception in a new synthesis of science, art, and religion; the spiritualization of space; and the separation of thought from language. This volume gathers Rudolf Steiner's most important statements on this subject, making it a primary source for dealing with today's political, social, psychological, and spiritual crises.

6 Aspects of Human Evolution
0880102527 / 9780880102520 1987 Paperback
This volume goes deeply into questions of the soul's evolving, changing needs for development. Steiner shows how the natural development of the soul stops at about the age of 27. After that we no longer inwardly grow unless we bring it about ourselves. Steiner also explains that comprehending how we arrive at aesthetic assessments depends on an understanding of the higher members of the human being and their relationships to the lower members. This volume along with The Karma of Materialism completes the entire German volume GA 176.

Becoming Aware of the Logos The Way of St. John the Evangelist, KUHLEWIND, GEORG
8 Becoming Aware of the Logos The Way of St. John the Evangelist
0940262096 / 9780940262096 Paperback
“A single human being has no reality; the existence of ‘man’ begins with the word that floats between I and you. The Logos connects human beings through the Word; all else is temptation or a temporary connection.” — Georg Kühlewind
“To become aware of the Logos is to become aware of the Logos in oneself.... The world speaks. Before all else, it utters speaking itself. Or does speaking utter the world.” So begin the first two chapters of this inspired, existential meditation on the contemporary meaning of the message of St. John: “In the beginning was the Word.”

Through this Word—Logos—all things became. In it was life, the light of human beings. It shown I the darkness, and the darkness received it not. It was in the world, and the world did not know it. It entered individual being, and, to those who received it, it gave the ability to become the children of God. Its radiance was seen, full of grace and truth.

The fruit of many years of study and meditation, Becoming Aware of the Logos places the reader in the world of living thinking and cognitive love. It teaches the way of grace and truth in a radical, original manner. For the Logos, although it is the ground of any true logic, is beyond ordinary dialectic. The author does not approach his subject conventionally, but penetrates and communicates it by unfolding central themes such as: the Logos in the beginning; the light in the darkness; the speaker; life; spirit; grace; and truth.
Georg Kühlewind (1924–2006) was a Hungarian philosopher, writer, lecturer, and meditation teacher who worked from the tradition of Rudolf Steiner’s spiritual science. Setting aside his early interest in music and psychology, he pursued a successful professional career as a physical chemist. Meanwhile, he continued to deepen his spiritual practice and insights. A prolific author (most of whose works are still only in German), Georg Kühlewind spent much time traveling the world, lecturing and leading workshops and seminars in meditation, psychology, epistemology, child development, anthroposophy, and esoteric Christianity. He was the author of numerous books. Kühlewind died January 15, 2006 at the age of 83.

9 Becoming the Archangel Michael's Companions Rudolf Steiner's Challenge to the Younger Generation
0880106093 / 9780880106092 2007 Paperback
'The younger generation is always faced with the dilemma of being heir to the old while about to become a guide for the new...This cycle of lectures "to the younger generation" speaks of a pathway to a Michaelic harvest for ears that have the goodwill to hear.' - Carlo PietznerRudolf. Steiner presented these lectures to about 100 German young people who hoped to bring Waldorf education into the culture of their time and for the future. Steiner stressed upon his listeners the great importance of 'self-education' as a prerequisite to all other education. His was an attempt to guide the youth toward understanding themselves within the world situation. Steiner showed how the stream of generations had been interrupted by eighteenth-century intellectualism, emphasizing that they would have to reject the general acceptance of impersonal social routine, dead intellectual thinking, and personal and social egoism.Steiner discussed the need, instead, for a form of education permeated by art and feeling, which brings inner nourishment that can grow throughout one's life.
It was his view that, without such an education, society will not reach a future built on moral love and mutual human confidence - a truly human culture. A previous edition of these lectures was titled "The Younger Generation". Original German title: "Paedagogischer Jugendkurs" (GA 217). This collected works edition includes an introduction and index.

Bridge Between Universal Spirituality and the Physical Constitution of Man , STEINER, RUDOLF, OSMOND, D.S.
11 Bridge Between Universal Spirituality and the Physical Constitution of Man
0910142033 / 9780910142038 2007 Paperback
Rudolf Steiner addresses the following topics in these lectures. Soul-and-Spirit in Man's Physical Constitution: The physical organism of man is considered today to consist of more or less solid-fluid substances; but as well as his solid, physical body, man has within him as definite organisms, a fluid body, an air-body and a warmth-body. It covers: the connections of these organisms with the members of man's whole being and with the different Ethers; thought and tone; ego and circulating Blood; man in the sleeping state; man's relation to the universal Spirituality; and, imagination, inspiration, intuition. The circumscribed view of the human organism prevailing today is unable to build any bridge between the physical body and the soul-and-spirit.The Moral as the Source of World-Creative Power: Recapitulation of previous lecture. It covers connection of the moral world-order with the physical world-order. The moral world-order has no place in the natural scientific thinking of today.
It includes: the positive effect of moral ideals and ideas and the negative effect of theoretical ideas on the four organisms in man; the materialistic conception of the imperishability of matter and energy. Matter and energy die away to nullity. But man's moral thinking imbues life into substance and will. The natural world dies away in man; in the realm of the moral a new natural world comes into being; thus are the moral order and the natural order connected. It covers: absence of spirituality in the modern picture of the world which is based on the Copernican system. Kepler and Newton - We need a spiritual view of the universe. The sun is not a globe of burning gas but the reflection of a spiritual reality revealed in the physical. The moral power developed by man rays out and is reflected as the spiritual Sun. Julian the Apostate - the connection of the spiritual Sun with the physical sun is the Christ-Secret.The Path to Freedom and Love and Their Significance in World-Events: Man as a being of Thinking, Action and Feeling.
It covers: the connection of the life of thought with the will; pure thinking: irradiation of the life of thought by will - this leads to Freedom; irradiation of the life of will by thoughts leads to Love; the meaning of the ancient expressions - semblance, power, wisdom. To speak of the imperishability of matter and energy annuls Love - the significance of Freedom and Love in world-happenings.

Despite the explosion of books, videos and TV shows that claim to penetrate the mystery of "2012"-the numerical shorthand for the completion on December 21, 2012, of the thirteenth B'ak'tun cycle in the Long Count of the Maya calendar-consensus about its meaning seems to remain elusive. As metaphysical speculation mounts, professional astronomers and ethnologists dismiss the whole body of modern interpretations of the Mayan calendar as New Age gobbledygook. Among the supposed seers themselves-including Jose Arguelles, Carl Johann Calleman, and Daniel Pinchbeck-doctrinal disputes worthy of academics are now the norm. The scholars have every right to be miffed at the sometimes sloppy thinking and exaggerated claims of the seers, which tend toward enthusiastic proclamations of an imminent, universally accelerated psychic evolution, while the seers themselves have legitimate critiques about the limits of scientific inquiry when it comes to the prophetic traditions of ancient peoples. Christ and the Maya Calendar approaches the significance of 2012 by spiritually penetrating phenomena of today.
Drawing on the book of Revelation-which provides an archetype for understanding spiritual history, as well as on Rudolf Steiner's Apocalyptic indications, a completely new context for grasping the end date of the Maya calendar emerges. In a November 1919 lecture, Steiner made a stunning remark about Ahriman: "Ahriman skillfully prepares his goal beforehand ...[and] will find an important instrument for preparing his incarnation. His incarnation is undoubtedly coming, and this lack of insight will enable him to prepare it triumphantly." The subtitle of this book-"2012 and the Coming of the Antichrist"-refers to this coming incarnation of Ahriman. In fact, Steiner narrowed the timeline for Ahriman's incarnation, saying it would come "before even a small part of the third millennium has run its course." Just after Christmas 1919, Steiner revealed more about the impending incarnation of Ahriman, saying almost offhandedly that Ahriman's name might be "John William Smith." With this remark, he clearly pointed to the incarnation occurring in the English-speaking West, while other remarks made it is certain Steiner meant that the incarnation would take place in America.
In addition to penetrating the spiritual background of our time in relation to the coming of the Antichrist (the incarnation of Ahriman), the authors explore the significance of the Mexican mysteries and present a wealth of new research with the intention of helping the reader to navigate the Apocalyptic scenario currently shaping up, with the global financial crisis as one important expression. Most important, the authors refer to the Second Coming of Christ as the true event of our time; the incarnation of Satan/Ahriman is its shadow. The authors also show the significance of Divine Sophia as the antidote to negative consequences of Ahriman's incarnation. Finally, as a positive manifestation of the world of spirit in our time, the book discusses the significance of the young anthroposophist, Judith von Halle, who since Easter 2004 has born the stigmata, the visible signs of the wounds of Christ.

Conte crayon on paper in colour.
In the 21st century The Chymical Wedding is still acknowledged as a great literary gem, an exceptional story written within the Western esoteric tradition. The story follows the narrator, Christian Rosenkreutz, on his path of striving towards spiritual knowledge and an inner transformation. The whole experience of what he first witnesses, then participates in and finally takes responsibility for, profoundly challenges him.

This is an important book during this critical time of change which faces humanity today. We are currently witnessing the dazzling development of scientific and technological thought, yet this thinking is ill-equipped to solve the deeper mysteries of the human being and the social life. The Chymical Wedding invites us to transform this power of scientific thinking into new more positive ways of looking at the world, without losing its clarity and certainty.

The illuminating illustrations by David Newbatt, together with the text which has been adapted into modern English, bring a fresh approach to this alchemical tale, to help in awakening an understanding for this Rosicrucian initiation path. Underneath the veil of the fascinating imagery within this book is a guide for developing a more meaningful inner life in the 21st century.

19 Cosmic Christ
086315753X / 9780863157530 Hardback
The question of the cosmic reality of Christ is central to modern Christian awareness. We see lively debate about Christ's nature in relation to the earth and creation, not only within the church itself but also in more speculative areas of thinking and feeling, such as creation spirituality and the New Age movement.

The works of Teilhard de Chardin and Fritjof Capra have stimulated many to think spiritually about the created world and the part of humankind in its evolution. These issues were also illuminated by Rudolf Steiner in his Christology which placed the Incarnation at a pivotal point of earthly evolution.

Cosmos, Earth and Nutrition The Biodynamic Approach to Agriculture. The Biodynamic Approach to Agriculture, SMITH, RICHARD THORNTON
20 Cosmos, Earth and Nutrition The Biodynamic Approach to Agriculture. The Biodynamic Approach to Agriculture
1855842270 / 9781855842274 2009 Paperback
In recent years there has been an explosion of interest in organic and biodynamic produce. Although once marginal and 'alternative', escalating concerns about the environment, health, food quality and animal welfare have brought organics into mainstream consciousness.
Biodynamics, a unique development of the organic approach, does not narrowly focus on agricultural techniques. It was conceived as a new way of thinking about farming, nutrition and the world of nature, allowing for a revitalized relationship with the living soil, the elemental world and the cosmos. Originating from a series of eight lectures given by Dr Rudolf Steiner in 1924, biodynamics broadens the outlook of agriculture and the science behind it, leading to a holistic perspective that incorporates astronomical rhythms and unique preparations for plants and earth.

The author describes the foundations on which not only biodynamics but also the wider organic movement is based. He builds bridges between mainstream science and Steiner's insights, making it easier for the wider organic and ecological movement to approach biodynamic concepts and practise.
This book has much to offer to the beginner as well as to those already involved with biodynamics. Its broad range of topics - including the ecology of the farm organism, food quality and nutrition, community supported agriculture, planetary influences, seed quality, and the vitality of water - contribute to a deeper understanding of the subject. The author is also concerned to promote innovation so that biodynamics moves with the times. An appendix includes details for contacting various elements of the biodynamic world.

DR RICHARD THORNTON SMITH was formerly a geography professor at the University of Leeds, specializing in soil science, environment and conservation. Widely travelled, he has a long-standing interest in indigenous and sustainable farming. He was introduced to the work of Rudolf Steiner at an early age, although his full involvement with biodynamics dates from 1990 when he began to participate in training programmes and workshops at Emerson College, Sussex. In 1996 he began a biodynamic extension programme in Sri Lanka, for which he published a book, most recently updated in 2007. Since 2001 he has been an inspector for the Biodynamic Association's Demeter and Organic Certification in the UK. In 2003 he produced an edited selection of Steiner's work relating to agriculture. He is currently a council member of the Biodynamic Agricultural Association, and lives in Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire.
