1 Advent Sunday Stories
LEENMAN, COLLETTE
0473151715 / 9780473151713
Advent Sunday Stories was written and illustated by Collete Leenman who has a Bachelor of Arts degree and trained and worked as a Steiner kindergartener. She has two children and lives with her family in Titirangi, Auckland, New Zealand.
There is one story for each of the four Sundays before Christmas (Advent). They cover the mineral, plant, animal and human realms as themes. Together they give an imaginary narrative of Mary and Joseph's journey to Bethlehem.
These charming stories are a way of providing children with a moment of stillness and inner noursihment during what can be a hectic time of the year.

Easter Rudolf Steiner's Watercolor Painting Three Crosses, LORD, ANGELA
3 Easter Rudolf Steiner's Watercolor Painting Three Crosses
LORD, ANGELA
0880107235 / 9780880107235 2011 Paperback
FULL COLOUR THROUGHOUT
This marvelous book explores the deep meaning of the watercolor Easter (or "Three Crosses") painted by Rudolf Steiner in April 1924. Living through this book into Steiner’s watercolor painting, the reader is led to contemplate the profound mysteries of not only colors and the sense world, but also the divine, cosmic, human invisible reality lying behind them and manifested in the unique event we celebrate as Easter.

At first, the coloring and composition of the painting seem relatively simple. But the longer one looks at and meditates upon it, questions begin to press upon the viewer:

* Why did Rudolf Steiner use the rainbow sequence of colors?
* Why are the crosses so small, seen only from a distance?
* Who or what are the white figures “below the earth”?
* What is the painting actually about?

Answering these questions, artist Angela Lord draws on a wide range of anthroposophic and other sources to illuminate the enormous mystery of Easter itself. It becomes clear that in the painting, Steiner does not focus on Good Friday but on Holy Saturday and Jesus Christ’s "descent into hell", or into Limbo, to raise the dead. Thus, the motif is not suffering so much as it is the germinating theme of Resurrection.

The author then turns to meditate on the painting in the light of the Twenty-third Psalm, and the reader recognizes the Psalmist’s image of "comfort" in a new form. The book also considers the Easter verses in Steiner’s Calendar of the Soul, as well as the pre-Christian Mystery of Adonis, which expands the the reader's understanding of the colors and the profound meaning of the painting.

Lord then delves into the mysteries of colors as Steiner uses them - from the polarity of red and black, the contrast of orange and green, the radiance of yellow and blue, and the enigmatic presence of white and violet to an experience of the painting as a beautiful rainbow.

The Easter experience, as the colors teach, offers the “rainbow meditation” and what it means to be human. Moreover, because humanity is (in Steiner’s words) “the religion of the gods,” Angela Lord ends her book with an exploration of the cosmic meaning that shines through the colors.

Festivals in the Southern Hemisphere Insights into Cosmic and Seasonal Aspects of the Whole Earth, SAMSON, MARTIN
7 Festivals in the Southern Hemisphere Insights into Cosmic and Seasonal Aspects of the Whole Earth
SAMSON, MARTIN
1782502475 / 9781782502470
Many of the Christian festivals traditionally draw imagery and symbolism from the northern hemisphere seasons. Christmas is often described as a light in the darkness of winter, and Easter reflects the new life emerging in spring. Rudolf Steiner also offered various descriptions of the relation of the festivals to seasons.

This has led some to suggest that Christian festivals in the southern hemisphere should be celebrated at opposite times of the year: for example, celebrating Christmas in June, or Easter in September. Is that really what Steiner was suggesting?

This insightful book thoroughly reviews all of Steiner's words on the subject, as well as the writings of other anthroposophical thinkers. Steiner shared cosmic, spiritual imaginations for the northern hemisphere, and in this book Martin Samson develops a useful equivalent guide for the southern hemisphere, as well as closely studying the liturgy of The Christian Community and its seasonal prayers.

From his research, he concludes that the essence of Christian festivals works at the same time for the whole earth, but take on subtly different nuances through the opposite seasons.

Martin Samson has been a priest of The Christian Community for over twenty years, and has worked in Australia since 1992. He has a Masters in Theological Studies and has spent many years studying cross-cultural religion, philosophy, mythology and cosmology. He has lectured extensively on the question of festivals in the southern hemisphere, and runs excursions into the outback of Australia to explore the connection to Aboriginal Australia and the southern stars.

Festivals of the Year A Workbook for Re-enlivening the Christian Festive Cycle, DRUITT, ROGER
8 Festivals of the Year A Workbook for Re-enlivening the Christian Festive Cycle
DRUITT, ROGER
1855843927 / 9781855843929
I invite you to travel with me along the spiral of the yearly festivals, to share what I have discovered there in the 40 years I have been exploring this path. I hope you will find a fuller feeling for your own festivals and a latent creative talent for them within your domestic or working situation. I also hope your festivals become a real link between your own spirit and the spirit that weaves through the year.’ – from the Introduction
The esoteric path of development described in this book is suitable for anyone, regardless of religious persuasion. It offers ways – through meditative and contemplative work – in which each of us can participate in the yearly festive and seasonal cycle.
Festivals of the Year takes as its premise that the Earth is a living being. In earlier ages, she existed through her inherent vitality, but now the Earth needs us to help nourish and sustain her. Basing his work on the research of Rudolf Steiner, the author indicates how we can participate in festivals through our inner, spiritual self. The human ‘I’ or ego can be enhanced by accessing forces from beyond Nature, which in turn can re-enliven the Earth. Engaging with festivals through meditative effort, we become creators ourselves, transcending the purely commemorative, and entering a living, creative dynamic. The practical exercises in this book enable an experience of this, allowing for a perception of the true power of Christianity.
ROGER DRUITT was surrounded by Nature as a boy, growing up on a farm. Since the age of three he has wanted to understand the world, and was fortunate to meet Anthroposophy in his teens. He studied mathematics at Cambridge, graduating in Economics to work in computing. He discovered the Anthroposophical Society and The Christian Community in the 1960s and has enjoyed the inspiration of both movements ever since, teaching widely on aspects of Nature observation and connecting to the hidden spirit. Festivals have been important both in his work as a priest and that of his wife Ann’s work as educator and mother. They live in Sussex and have four children, five hens, eight grandchildren and thousands of bees.

Grail and the Development of Conscience, The St. Paul and Parsifal, KONIG, KARL TRANS. GUY CORNISH
9 Grail and the Development of Conscience, The St. Paul and Parsifal
KONIG, KARL TRANS. GUY CORNISH

König often gave lectures based on the Christian festivals, and the selections in this book were first presented at Eastertime. The central theme is the development of conscience and memory, which raises questions about individual freedom and spirituality, particularly in the context of community-building.

Running parallel with the main theme, König discusses a number of subjects close to his heart, including the search for the Grail, Parsifal and St. Paul, connecting his subjects in surprising and challenging ways.

Karl König (1902–1966) was well-known as a physician, author, and lecturer. He began his work at the Institute of Embryology at the University of Vienna. In 1939 he founded the Camphill Movement in Scotland. Based on the educational ideas of Rudolf Steiner, the special education schools for children and villages for adults with special needs are now established all over Britain and Europe, North and South America and Southern Africa. He was the author of numerous books.

Spiritual Background to Christian Festivals , KOVACS, CHARLES
12 Spiritual Background to Christian Festivals
KOVACS, CHARLES
0863156010 / 9780863156014 2007 Paperback
The rhythms of the earth can be seen in, for example, the daily cycle of day and night, or in the changing seasons. Rudolf Steiner spoke about how Christian festivals such as Easter, Whitsun and Christmas fitted not just into these patterns, but also into larger cosmic rhythms and, on a smaller scale, human rhythms. In this concise, readable book Charles Kovacs explores the structure of our calendar year and looks in detail at the background to each Christian festival, including lesser-known ones such as St. John's Tide and Michaelmas. This book is an inspiring insight into why we worship and celebrate at particular times and the deep spiritual significance found in the Christian year.
