<B>A Spiritual Roadmap </B><I> Walking the Path in the Twenty-first Century</I>, BURTON, MICHAEL HEDLEY
1 A Spiritual Roadmap Walking the Path in the Twenty-first Century
1621481603 / 9781621481607
An investigation into the "threshold" - what it is, how humanity is meeting it today, and how it can be crossed.

"I am being driven forward
into an unknown land.
The pass grows steeper,
the air colder and sharper.
A wind from my unknown goal
stirs the strings
of expectation.

Still the question:
will I ever get there?
There where life resounds,
a clear, pure note
in the silence."
- Dag Hammarskjöld

The phrase "walk the path" is a metaphor for the life journey of those who aim toward spiritual illumination. We all have our own unique journey in life, and no one can walk that path for us or prescribe the way we should go. Nevertheless, we sometimes encounter a fellow traveler along the way with whom insights and experiences can be shared. There is much to discuss, because today we can no longer rely on the dogmas and orthodoxies of human history. Spiritual illumination today demands a path of knowledge without preconception and fixed worldviews.

This book is written for those who have come to the point of deciding that the best thing they can do for the good of the earth and for their own fulfillment is to approach life as a quest for self-knowledge and true inner freedom. For them, this book will be an invaluable roadmap and guide for the many important milestones and crossroads we encounter in life. Michael Burton offers seven chapters that echo the seven stages of the alchemical process of illumination. It is written in such a way that it not only imparts information but also engages the reader’s life of feeling and will. No one can read this book and not be challenged to walk the path toward inner transformation.

New Zealander Michael Burton is based in Sydney and works as a writer, speech performer, actor, speech therapist, and voice teacher. He is the writer of the script for an international project to perform a play that follows on from the four initiation dramas of Rudolf Steiner. He gives performances in a number of countries of his one-man drama, Shakespeare and the Mystery of the Human Being (2003).

<B>Creative Spiritual Research </B><I> Awakening the Individual Human Spirit</I>, HOUTEN, COENRAAD VAN
4 Creative Spiritual Research Awakening the Individual Human Spirit
1906999287 / 9781906999285 2011 Paperback
This book... will appeal to those who are in touch with their inner creative impulses, or are motivated but do not know how to begin. The aim is to make this spiritual path possible for every person. It can change the way one relates to life and work - at first simply by an attitude shift, as a questioning, caring human being, taking seriously the spiritual forces that manifest in all outer phenomena.'
How do adults learn and develop? How can adult learning become a living, growing process?
Based on the application of the 'seven life processes', Coenraad van Houten has successfully developed the methods of 'Vocational Learning' (Awakening the Will, 1999) and 'Destiny Learning' (Practising Destiny, 2000). Here, in the culmination of his research trilogy, he presents a new path of adult learning which he calls 'Creative Spiritual Research'. Based on the inner spiritual path of the individual, this is a method that relates to esoteric schooling, thresholds of consciousness and human creativity.
Part One of Creative Spiritual Research features guidelines and exercises for individual practice, whilst Part Two focuses on the general schooling path as a preparation or precondition, opening the inner space needed for research as well as a questioning attitude.
COENRAAD VAN HOUTEN was born in the Netherlands in 1922. After studying Chemistry, Economics and Social Pedagogy, he lived and worked in Holland, Indonesia, Hong Kong and Britain as a manager in business, as a consultant, and as the director of the Centre for Social Development (which he co-founded). He has developed specialist programmes and seminars for educating adults, and presently advises organizations on training programmes. He is the author of Awakening the Will, Practising Destiny, The Threefold Nature of Destiny Learning, and is the co-founder of the New Adult Learning Movement.

<B>Developing the Self </B><I> Through the Inner Work Path in the Light of Anthroposophy</I>, ROMERO, LISA
5 Developing the Self Through the Inner Work Path in the Light of Anthroposophy
1621481239 / 9781621481232
“Through taking hold of all that lives in us, we participate consciously in the transformation of our particular personal self — which is often closed to higher insights — toward a greater possibility of experiencing a living, dynamic spiritual life that awakens our being and serves the progression of the world in which we live.” — Lisa Romero
At the foundation of Western esoteric studies is an understanding of the evolution of consciousness. Anthroposophically based esoteric training focuses on strengthening the human soul. Ancient and modern practices are reenlivened to meet humanity’s evolving needs and to fulfill our present task of cultivating freedom and love to its highest degree.

Individual effort toward developing the higher self is essential for genuine progress on the inner work path. The clear insights and exercises outlined in this book reveal the meaning and necessity of this essential effort in the present age of the consciousness soul, contributing to simultaneously enlivening both our inner and outer work. The path of developing the self and our work in the world are not separated but united through our practices and their results.

6 Eightfold Path, The
A Way of Development for those Working in Education, Therapy and the Caring Professions

1906999880 / 9781906999889 2016
Centuries before the birth of Christ, Buddha taught a path of love, compassion and forgiveness originating from his experiences of suffering in the world. The cause of suffering, he believed, lay within the soul, which had become self-centred and egotistic. Buddha inaugurated the Eightfold Path for purification and transformation – eight exercises which could lead to a new relationship with the world, from self-centredness to a warm interest in one’s environment and in other people. The exercises, described and explained here in their correct sequence – with each preparing the individual for the next step – are: the right view, the right resolve, the right word, the right action, the right standpoint, the right effort, the right remembrance and the right contemplation.

In this small book, based on commentary given by Rudolf Steiner as well as his own intensive work with many groups, Joop van Dam has created a practical guide for anyone wishing to take up this path of personal development. He gives particular focus to the benefit that can be gained from the Eightfold Path by those in the educational, therapeutic and caring professions.

JOOP VAN DAM was a medical doctor for 40 years in Haarlem, the Netherlands. Now retired, he is still active as a lecturer in educational and medical programmes and in the Anthroposophical Society in the Netherlands, of which he was President for seven years. He is the author of several publications, including The Sixfold Path.

8 Forgiveness Project, The Stories for a Vengeful Age
1849055661 / 9781849055666 2015 Hardback
"Examining themes of forgiveness, reconciliation and conflict transformation, this book brings together the personal testimonies of both survivors and perpetrators of crime and violence and asks the question whether forgiveness may have more currency than revenge in an age which seems locked into the cycle of conflict. The powerful real life stories collected by The Forgiveness Project come from ordinary people around the world in a diverse range of situations, including those who have transformed aggression into a driving force for peace. Raising the possibility of alternatives to resentment, retaliation and revenge, each story shows the very real impact of forgiveness (or lack of forgiveness) within a particular context, provoking questions such as 'what is forgiveness?', 'how can you respond to the unforgivable?' and 'can you move on without forgiveness?' Marina Cantacuzino's challenging, reflective introductory essay sets the stories in the larger context of approaches to forgiveness, from both religious and secular viewpoints, concluding that in the reality of lived experience forgiveness has a quality 'as mysterious as love'. As with all good storytelling each personal narrative in this book reveals both the intimate in the epic and the epic in the intimate. The Forgiveness Project grew out of a conviction that people's perspectives only shift when they are able to hear the stories of others. In ten years it has become a high impact and influential charity that has wide application and a universal draw on people. Using real stories of victims and perpetrators, the charity sets out to explore concepts of forgiveness and conflict resolution in order to humanise the 'other', foster resilient relationships and help to dissolve tension."

<B>Friend of My Heart: Meeting Christ in Everyday Life </B><I> </I>, BLATCHFORD, CLAIRE
9 Friend of My Heart: Meeting Christ in Everyday Life
0940262940 / 9780940262942 Paperback
How, when, and where can one meet this Friend of every heart? My guess is that there are as many ways of meeting him as there are human beings in the world. I have heard of people who met him unexpectedly in near death experiences, during illnesses, or at crossroads in their lives. Some of these people saw and heard him, while for others the experience was less direct but no less meaningful. For example, they heard his voice or sensed his presence in the words or deeds of a friend or a stranger. I have also read of people meeting him because they earnestly desired it. Whether we are conscious or not of wanting to meet him, I believe his wish for the encounter is always present, but he never forces himself upon us. I have always felt complete respect from him for my freedom, both inner and outer" (from Friend of My Heart).

To open this book is to open yourself to the possibility of an extraordinary meeting. For this is the story of such a meeting, and it is one that can happen to anyone who wants it. The book begins as each of us must begin--with a declaration of hope, heartfelt longing, expectation. Gathered from more than twenty-five journals over twenty years, the messages in this book invite us to listen in the spirit of simplicity, openness, and faith, and then to be attentive to what stirs within. First comes the question: how, when and where can one meet this Friend of the heart? The answer comes from the author's experiences and the messages she has received inwardly. Made deaf by illness at the age of six, Claire Blatchford speaks to us about how to listen and how to hear from our own inner and outer lives.

These are primary messages, put into the context of the author's life, that enable us, in the context of our own lives, to enter into a relationship with this Being who is the Friend of every heart. Friend of My Heart leaves us with the profound sense that we can all stand truly as our own selves in the presence of love.

<B>Fruits and Gifts of the Spirit </B><I> </I>, KEATING, THOMAS
10 Fruits and Gifts of the Spirit
1930051212 / 9781930051218 Paperback
Thomas Keating has spent over fifty years in sustained practice and devotion to the spiritual life. The results of this creative, humble activity are now summarized in this remarkable book, Fruits and Gifts of the Spirit.
As Father Keating says, the spiritual journey is a gradual process of enlarging our emotional, mental, and physical relationship with the divine reality that is present in us, but one not ordinarily accessible to our emotions or concepts. The spiritual journey teaches us: first, to believe in the Divine Indwelling within us, fully present and energizing every level of our being; secondly, to recognize that this energy is benign, healing, and transforming; and, thirdly, to enjoy its gradual unfolding step-by-step both in prayer and action.

<B>Group Meditation </B><I> </I>, LIPSON, MICHAEL
11 Group Meditation
0880107308 / 9780880107303
"This book comes from joy." With these words, Michael Lipson begins his offering, the fruit of many years of study and practice. Group Meditation is both a practical introduction to the power of meditation in groups and a challenging review of the meaning of meditation itself.

Continuing themes he introduced in his earlier book, Stairway of Surprise, in Group Meditation Lipson shows how ordinary capacities such as thinking and feeling can be intensified without limit in a group setting, so that these capacities transmit the most intimate truths of nature and being. There are aspects of the world that are too vast to be borne by one person alone; to approach them, a group is needed. Theme-based meditation, as Lipson demonstrates, links those practitioners together in a special kind of community that can endure greater light.

With repeated exercise, either in isolation or in community, attention oriented toward a high meaning grows more concentrated, more intense. It frees us to drop our self-concern and, instead, take in the full shock of our shared existence on Earth. It helps us, finally, "to be, ourselves, the news from heaven."

<B>Guided Self-Study </B><I> </I>, FINSER, TORIN
12 Guided Self-Study
1621481301 / 9781621481300
"First, one might ask: Why not just read the first three books? After all, Rudolf Steiner wrote them in such a way that the very act of reading them can awaken new faculties. Who could ever duplicate that? It might even seem presumptuous to select passages from books that were constructed by an initiate. To those who have these and other objections, I have the following response: My hope is that the pages in this book serve as an invitation, so that those who work with this material will then be motivated to go to the original texts and work with them more intensively." —Torin Finser

This book guides the reader through foundational works of Rudolf Steiner, while asking questions along the way that provoke thought and insight. In part 1, Torin Finser focuses on three essential works: How to Know Higher Worlds: A Modern Path of Initiation (CW 10) Intuitive Thinking as a Spiritual Path: A Philosophy of Freedom (CW 4); and Theosophy: An Introduction to the Spiritual Processes in Human Life and in the Cosmos (CW 9).

In addition, three lectures are included: "Overcoming Nervousness"; "The Four Temperaments"; and "Practical Training in Thought." These offer invaluable insight and guidance in helping the reader prepare inwardly to undertake effectively the exercises and practices outlined in the appendices.

In part 2, the author outlines the essential worldview and approach of Spiritual Science. As he tells us, "Sometimes, we have questions that cannot be answered by conventional means, such as the news media or the internet. There are situations when a person can feel an inner stirring—a longing for real answers that go beyond ordinary, informational knowledge. Sometimes this search can intensify and become burning questions about human nature, the origin of the universe, or the basis of healthy relationships. When this occurs, Anthroposophy can provide a sound path of knowledge that connects the spiritual in the seeker with the spiritual in the universe, the individual with the multidimensional."

The appendices provide an accessible and systematic guide to the all-important practical aspects of Anthroposophy. Steiner emphasized that Spiritual Science is not a doctrine or merely an intellectual exercise but a path of knowledge—ultimately, knowledge of the spiritual worlds. To this end, regular practice—including the "six exercises" and meditation—is absolutely essential.

For those who are new to Anthroposophy, this book will be a helpful companion and guide to understanding the essentials of the spiritual-scientific worldview and path of inner development. For those who have been studying Anthroposophy for many years, Guided Self-Study serves to stimulate the "beginner's mind" that sees the world with fresh vision and enthusiasm.

13 Inner Development Seven Lectures, Rotterdam, 15-22 August, 1938
0880103639 / 9780880103633 1992 Paperback
black & white illustrations
The focus of this book is the spiritual work in the "school"-the community-of Michael. What does this mean? At the end of the eighteenth century, the Archangel Michael revealed the new mystery that has manifested on Earth as spiritual science, or anthroposophy. Its essence involves the renewal of our knowledge of the mysteries of karma and human destiny. Those who are drawn to this school have a special relationship to the human faculty of thinking-their inner feeling for truth has the strength of iron. This feeling for truth helps them to become companions of Michael at the threshold of the spiritual world. These talks deal with the spiritual path of anthroposophy in its Christian Rosicrudian aspect. Tomberg speaks openly and honestly about meditation, the various stages of consciousness (imagination, inspiration, and intuition), the "guardian of the threshold," and the esoteric trials one encounters along the way. He concludes by describing the life of Rudolf Steiner as the life of a Christian initiate.

15 Inner Work Path, The A Foundation for Meditative Practice
1621480593 / 9781621480594 2014
The Inner Work Path provides accessible insights into the workings of the human soul, outlines its relationship to the spiritual life, and shows the way to develop and strengthen our inner capacities through practical exercises, experience and deep understanding. By building a bridge between the spiritual and the earthly, the unfolding of these soul capacities awakens the consciousness with which to engage and transform our inner lives.

”Every step an individual takes affects the collective development of humanity. The world we experience now is a result of the inner work of past generations. By consciously working to understand and experience our connection to the higher worlds we are more able to fully realise and contribute to the higher unfolding of humankind” – Lisa Romero

LISA ROMERO is a practising homeopath and adult educator who has applied anthroposophy to her practice since 1990 and delivered education enriched with anthroposophy since 1998. Since 2006 the primary focus of her work has been teaching inner development and anthroposophical meditation and more recently writing books on this subject.

Lisa lectures and presents workshops and retreats on inner work and anthroposophical meditation for professional and personal development. These are offered throughout the year in many communities within Australia, Asia and the United States. Lisa’s capacity to deliver esoteric wisdom with insight and understanding allows her to meet diverse needs of communities and professions.

For several years Lisa was the lecturer for Health and Nutrition and Male/Female Studies at Sydney Rudolf Steiner College (Parsifal College) where she now continues to lecture the tutors on inner development. She also designed and facilitated the Educaredo Towards Health and Healing course. This training ran eight, year-long courses working with therapists from all modalities as well as Waldorf teachers to bring the practical application of therapeutic and pedagogical methods. 16 Learning to Experience the Etheric World Empathy, the After Image and a New Social Ethic
1902636007 / 9781902636009 2000 Paperback
Today our world is increasingly characterized by feelings of movement and flux, speed and lack of time, upheaval and revolution. The authors of this book suggest that, in connection with this atmosphere of turmoil, people are beginning to have conscious and semi-conscious experiences of the etheric world; and yet this growing sensitivity to the etheric -- or life -- realm only intensifies the experiences of movement and upheaval. To counter these feelings we must take hold of our inner life and strengthen our "I" or ego.

Featuring essays supplemented with a substantial amount of source material from Rudolf Steiner and other authors, this book introduces us to methods for strengthening our essential self. In particular, we can learn to practice the ability to add to every physical perception -- whether it be of a stone, plant, animal, or human being -- the etheric reality that belongs to it.

"Even before we are called to the stages of higher development, we can prepare ourselves by understanding the way and the truth of the unfolding schooling we shall take. This book offers direct insight into how the inner exercises and meditations work and their intended results on various levels. It also discusses the well-trodden path of inner development, helping us understand the experiences we encounter as we move as individual through the several stages of consciousness.

<B>Love and the Evolution of Consciousness </B><I> A Study of the Transformation of the Human Soul, the Double, and the Spirit</I>, RIVERS, KAREN L.
18 Love and the Evolution of Consciousness A Study of the Transformation of the Human Soul, the Double, and the Spirit
1584209801 / 9781584209805
“We have not understood yet that the discovery of the unconscious means an enormous spiritual task, which must be accomplished if we wish to preserve our civilization.” —C. G. Jung

“Love is ultimately the most meaningful of human experiences. In all its various forms, love leads us to the fulfillment of human existence. Love has the power to unite us with our true self, to unite us with the spiritual essence in others, and it has the power to carry us on wings of selflessness to unite with the Divine.” —Karen Rivers

In this compelling and meticulously crafted book, Karen Rivers expresses the imperative need of individuals to walk a path of inner development that can lead to an ever-growing capacity for selfless love. Inspired by the work of Rudolf Steiner and Valentin Tomberg, the author presents insights and strategies for understanding and transforming impure aspects of one’s self to cultivate heart thinking.

The author describes the complexities of the human soul and the ninefold double; examines thought patterns, default feeling responses, and subconsciously driven reactions of the double; and discusses the dynamics of karma and the power of forgiveness as they relate to our path toward the embodiment of conscious love. This journey is further illuminated by stories of remarkable individuals who courageously and selflessly devoted their lives to the mission of love.

Love and the Evolution of Consciousness concludes with a meditation course for cultivating will forces and transforming the inner self.

“One must not say that the world is imperfect because it contains evil. Far rather, is it perfect precisely on that account. The creators of the world needed evil in order to bring the good to development. A good must first be broken on the rock of evil. The All-Love can be brought to its highest blossoming through only self-love.” —Rudolf Steiner

19 Male and Female Developing Human Empathy
1902636252 / 9781902636252 2001 Paperback
Male and Female is an important contribution to the sociological and political minefield of gender studies. Beginning with the threads of the male and female elements in cosmic evolution, the author studies the mythological and Judaic-Christian traditions, culminating in the present situation of the sexes within contemporary Western culture.

Baruch Urieli develops the theme of "empathy" as a guiding star for male-female relationships based on inter-recognition, inter-acceptance and inter-dependence. Through the power of empathy it will become possible for individuals and couples increasingly to perceive their true destiny and bring a new order into this area of human and world evolution.

In this classic work, Friedrich Rittelmeyer recognises the difficulties we face and proposes a Christian meditative path, to guide and inspire. His work is based on the Gospel of St John and he shows how the imagery in the text can be brought alive in people's hearts through thought and imagination.
